Purpose of the Job

The ICT Assistant for Network Administration reports to the Head of ICT and is tasked with evaluating information risks and leading remediation efforts for identified vulnerabilities related to IT security and risks within Kenya Tea Packers. They collaborate with the Database Administrator, Business Intelligence, and Reporting teams to coordinate ICT system support. Additionally, the role ensures secure network connectivity both within and between Keep offices, while maintaining the integrity and security of the company’s systems.

The primary responsibilities involve overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records. Key tasks include managing a team of professionals, developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance productivity and efficiency, and fostering a collaborative work environment. Additionally, the role requires analyzing performance metrics to identify trends, addressing operational challenges, and optimizing workflows to support organizational goals. Strong leadership, exceptional communication skills, and a results-driven mindset are essential for success in this position. Proficiency in relevant software and tools, along with a minimum of five years of experience in a managerial role, is also required.

Evaluates connectivity key performance indicators—including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency—to ensure optimal network performance. Additionally, oversees the strategic selection, installation, configuration, and testing of ICT equipment to maintain system reliability and efficiency.

Monitor and address all communications while troubleshooting networking issues by proactively implementing preventive strategies for IT networks, systems, and software applications.

Prepare a comprehensive report detailing the findings and recommendations related to identified vulnerabilities and submit it to the Head of ICT for appropriate corrective measures.

Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments utilizing established IT security tools and methodologies to identify and document any potential security risks or exposures in the IT network, systems, and software applications.

Consults with users to determine precise network specifications, evaluating workflow efficiency, data access needs, security protocols, and system requirements. Develops detailed router administration plans, outlining interface configurations and selecting appropriate routing protocols to ensure optimal network performance and seamless connectivity.

Maintains optimal network performance through proactive monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning, while swiftly troubleshooting issues and escalating unresolved problems to third-party vendors for resolution.

Develops and implements network access protocols, continuously monitors network activity, and enforces strict control measures to ensure optimal security. Additionally, the role involves maintaining and updating comprehensive documentation to reflect current network configurations and security protocols.

Conduct regular assessments of firewall rules, configurations, and logs, collaborating with the Head of Enhanced Cyber Defense and Security to establish access privileges, control frameworks, and resource allocations.

The ICT Manager will receive support in evaluating and proposing enhancements to critical ICT policies, including the Disaster Recovery Plan, the Company Technology Infrastructure and Systems Strategy, and the Business Continuity Plan Standard Operating Procedures.

We manage the ICT support helpdesk system by entering, updating, and tracking requests to ensure smooth operations. Additionally, we deliver prompt, reliable, and ongoing assistance to all users of our information and telecommunication systems.

Offer fundamental training and assistance to users in navigating the network and utilizing diverse software applications, while also supporting the ICT Manager in the upkeep and organization of documentation for all information systems.

Collaborate with vendor support representatives to assess, modify, and maintain Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while troubleshooting technical issues impacting end-user hardware, software, and network infrastructure, including MPLS, SD-WAN, and internet connectivity.

Verify that all computers, laptops, and servers within the domain or network operate with current, licensed operating systems and updated endpoint security software.

Verify that all computer systems integrate effortlessly with a wide range of platforms, such as validation systems, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.

Collaborate with the Head of ICT to develop the annual ICT training capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets.

Execute any additional responsibilities as directed by the Systems Administrator or the Head of ICT, as required.

Design, implement, and maintain robust network infrastructures, security frameworks, and related support systems. Responsible for overseeing the deployment of network solutions and ensuring the integrity, performance, and security of organizational systems. Requires expertise in designing scalable architectures, implementing security protocols, and providing ongoing technical assistance to sustain operational efficiency.

Conducting thorough penetration tests and comprehensive vulnerability assessments on information systems to identify security weaknesses, evaluate potential risks, and ensure robust protection against cyber threats.

Overseeing the ongoing operations related to threat and vulnerability management, this role is responsible for coordinating and directing the identification, assessment, and mitigation of potential security risks. The position involves ensuring the implementation of proactive measures to safeguard organizational assets, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of emerging threats, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to address vulnerabilities promptly. Additionally, the incumbent will monitor security posture, report on key risk indicators, and recommend strategic improvements to enhance the overall security framework.

Offer comprehensive technical assistance to end users, addressing inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and resolving hardware or software problems efficiently. Diagnose and resolve technical difficulties through remote or on-site intervention as required. Maintain detailed records of support interactions, solutions provided, and follow-up actions in the designated ticketing system. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to escalate complex issues and ensure timely resolution. Stay current with product updates, emerging technologies, and industry best practices to deliver informed and proactive support. Uphold a high standard of customer service while adhering to established service level agreements (SLAs) and support protocols.

Develop comprehensive strategies for deploying new hardware and software solutions. Oversee the scheduling and execution of firmware updates, along with software upgrades, to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance.

Collaborate with vendors to address and resolve issues pertaining to software and hardware malfunctions.

The role necessitates that the candidate has;

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is required for this position.

A minimum of two years’ hands-on experience in network administration is required.

We seek candidates with a recognized certification in network and security, such as the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEA).

Experienced professionals should possess practical expertise in network installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance. Familiarity with hardware setup, software deployment, and troubleshooting protocols is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to implement secure network architectures, optimize performance, and ensure seamless connectivity across systems. Proficiency in configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking devices is required, along with a strong understanding of protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Plans. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are critical for diagnosing and resolving network-related issues efficiently.

Highly proficient in network infrastructure, with a deep understanding of routing, switching, and security protocols, as well as troubleshooting methodologies to maintain optimal system performance and reliability.
