Job Summary

The Program Officer will assist in advancing the educational and implementation research initiatives of the PEP MTCs program while spearheading institutional-level advocacy efforts. This position is centered on enhancing research methodologies, fostering innovative teaching approaches, and driving greater funding for cardiometabolic disease (CMD) education and research across CHALK Medical Training Colleges.

Oversee a comprehensive range of critical tasks and operational functions, ensuring seamless execution and adherence to established protocols. Lead and coordinate cross-functional initiatives, fostering collaboration and alignment with organizational goals. Manage daily operations, prioritize strategic objectives, and drive efficiency through data-driven decision-making. Implement and monitor performance metrics to assess progress and identify areas for enhancement. Maintain compliance with industry regulations and internal policies while mitigating risks. Serve as a liaison between departments to streamline communication and resolve operational challenges. Develop and mentor team members to enhance productivity and professional growth. Ensure timely and accurate reporting to stakeholders to support informed decision-making.

Key responsibilities include developing and implementing advocacy strategies, collaborating with policymakers and partners, and measuring outcomes to assess effectiveness. Collaborate with CHALK MTC leadership, faculty, and students to foster endorsement of curriculum reforms and pioneering teaching methodologies.

Capacity development opportunities will be provided to enhance skills and knowledge in relevant areas. Participants will receive targeted training sessions aimed at strengthening professional competencies. Additional workshops will focus on practical applications to ensure the effective implementation of acquired expertise. Facilitate and deliver training workshops alongside mentorship programs aimed at enhancing the research capabilities of both faculty members and students.

Collaborate effectively with key partners, including CHALK, MTC, KCCB, AMREF, AP HRC, and the NCD Alliance Kenya, to ensure alignment between research initiatives and advocacy objectives.

Enhance collaboration among CHALK MTCs to facilitate the uniform implementation of innovative teaching methodologies.

The incumbent will oversee ongoing tracking and documentation duties, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis. This role involves compiling and presenting detailed reports on performance metrics, operational outcomes, and compliance status. The successful candidate must possess strong analytical skills to interpret trends, identify discrepancies, and provide actionable insights. Monitor institutional-level progress of research and advocacy initiatives.

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with at least three years of professional experience in software development or systems engineering. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is required, along with experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure. The ideal applicant will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

A master’s degree in public health, education, research methods, or an equivalent discipline is required.

A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a medical-related discipline, including nursing, Clinical Medicine, or Laboratory Science, is required.

Proficiency in education research, advocacy, or health systems strengthening requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.

Professional candidates should possess a comprehensive understanding of communicable diseases (CMDs), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and the intricate workforce development issues prevalent in Kenya.

Demonstrated expertise in institutional advocacy and collaboration with senior academic leadership.
