This role represents an entry to mid-tier research position within DAKOTA’s Customer Intelligence (CI) team. Serving as a CI Research Associate, you will contribute to comprehensive UX and product research initiatives, overseeing the entire process from study conception to insight dissemination while collaborating closely with senior researchers and various cross-functional departments. The position entails conducting authentic research on tangible products for real customers, whose financial well-being hinges on seamless, functional experiences.

This hybrid position requires on-site work from our Kenyan office, where you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professionals spanning our offices in the UK, Europe, and Africa. You will report directly to the Research Operations Lead.

In this role, you won’t remain confined to a purely supportive position; instead, you’ll engage directly with groundbreaking products designed for first-time smartphone users, first-time borrowers, and first-time digital finance customers across five distinct markets. The challenges in research are multifaceted, the impact is immediate and measurable, and the team upholds a commitment to excellence in execution.

What You’ll be doing

Convene and oversee moderated usability tests, semi-structured interviews, and surveys, handling all aspects of fieldwork logistics for both remote and in-person sessions, and guaranteeing sessions are configured to ensure the collection of high-quality data from the outset.

Crafting qualitative data into structured insights, you will apply predefined frameworks to organize information, develop affinity maps, compile insight lists, and produce well-structured reports. These deliverables will distill complex findings into concise, actionable insights tailored for both your direct team and key stakeholders.

Contributing to established team research practices, proactively identifying ambiguities in briefs, and leveraging AI-assisted tools—such as Claude and Notion AI—while exercising discernment to determine when human review is necessary for optimal output.

What You’ll bring

Proven expertise in UX research methodologies such as moderated usability testing, semi-structured interviewing, and survey design, coupled with the ability to discern the optimal application of each approach based on contextual needs.

Demonstrates strong proficiency in handling qualitative data, including the systematic coding of responses, recognition of recurring patterns, and development of synthesis outputs—such as affinity maps and insight lists—through a disciplined, organized methodology.

Proven experience with DAKOTA’s target markets or the broader ecosystem of first-time digital financial services users, coupled with a strong interest in addressing the unique usability challenges within that space.
