Key Responsibilities

Assist in the development of the national oil spill response contingency plan for coastal and inland waterways.

Assist with the revision and enhancement of the national oil spill response contingency plan, which covers both coastal and inland waters.

Assist with executing the national oil spill response contingency plan for both coastal and inland waterways.

Assist in developing and executing strategies to monitor and prevent oil spills in coastal and inland waterways.

Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to mitigate the environmental impact of maritime operations on marine ecosystems.

Conduct pollution prevention inspections at Kenyan ports and navigable waterways as part of a collaborative effort.

Support the organization of and participation in public outreach initiatives focused on preventing pollution originating from vessels.

Support the execution of international conventions and related instruments focused on marine pollution response and coordination efforts.

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of three years of professional experience in a comparable role. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. The ideal applicant must demonstrate adaptability, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Marine Engineer Officer (STCW) Competency Certificate

A valid Certificate of Competency as a Deck Officer, compliant with STCW standards, is required for this position.

Earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

A bachelor’s degree in marine engineering is required for this position.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Environment or a closely related field is required for this position. Candidates must possess a strong foundation in marine sciences, including knowledge of marine ecosystems, conservation principles, and environmental policies. Proficiency in data analysis and research methodologies pertinent to marine studies is essential. Excellent communication skills are necessary to convey technical information effectively to diverse audiences. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to sustainable marine practices and a passion for protecting oceanic ecosystems.

A degree in Nautical Science at the bachelor’s level is required for this position.

A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies is required for this role.
