Job Purpose

This role is responsible for designing and executing the Bank’s performance management strategies and policies to enhance staff productivity, attract and engage top talent, and ensure alignment with business objectives, regulatory standards, and market benchmarks. The individual will foster a high-performance culture throughout the organization and align employee contributions with strategic goals by overseeing the full performance management process, administering compensation and recognition programs, and leveraging key data insights to inform critical business decisions.

Oversee and execute critical tasks to ensure operational excellence, including managing project timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, and delivering high-quality results. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive efficiency, innovation, and growth within the organization. Monitor performance metrics, analyze data trends, and provide actionable insights to senior leadership for informed decision-making. Foster a collaborative work environment by mentoring team members, facilitating training sessions, and promoting professional development opportunities. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards while maintaining accountability for team productivity and project deliverables.

Drives the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of performance management processes to align employee goals with organizational objectives. Establishes clear performance expectations, monitors progress through regular evaluations, and provides constructive feedback to foster professional growth. Analyzes performance data to identify trends, address gaps, and recommend targeted interventions. Collaborates with leadership to design and deploy performance-based incentive programs that motivate high achievers and support underperformers. Ensures compliance with company policies and employment laws throughout all performance-related activities.

Spearhead the development, deployment, and ongoing enhancement of the Bank’s performance management framework.

Oversee the annual performance management process, encompassing goal establishment, mid-year assessments, and year-end appraisals.

Oversee organization-wide initiatives to design, implement, and maintain performance management and improvement programs through a data-driven methodology, aligning priorities with ongoing strategic objectives.

Drive the creation, execution, and oversight of strategic leadership development, employee growth, and talent management programs designed to bridge performance deficiencies arising from staff capacity and knowledge gaps, as well as enhance talent acquisition, retention, and career progression initiatives.

Deliver comprehensive training and ongoing assistance to line managers and staff to ensure the successful attainment of Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) objectives.

Foster a high-performing organizational culture by implementing robust goal-setting frameworks, conducting insightful performance evaluations, and establishing merit-based compensation systems.

Maintain uniform, equitable, and clear performance evaluations and feedback mechanisms to uphold consistency and integrity in assessments.

Analyze performance data to derive actionable insights that drive talent development initiatives, inform succession planning strategies, and guide rewards-related decision-making processes.

Implement organization-wide initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of high performance across all levels of the company.

Developing a structured framework to monitor progress from initial goal establishment through mid-year assessments and culminating in annual evaluations, thereby enhancing individual, team, and overall organizational effectiveness.

To facilitate targeted communication and capacity-building initiatives within the performance management process, this role will empower managers with the tools and strategies needed to accurately assess and measure individual and team performance, ultimately driving optimization of performance and productivity.

Regularly perform salary and compensation benchmarking studies to maintain the Bank’s remuneration packages competitive, current, and aligned with prevailing market and industry benchmarks.

The position is responsible for overseeing governance frameworks and ensuring accurate, timely reporting in alignment with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. Key duties include developing and maintaining governance structures, monitoring compliance with internal and external standards, and producing comprehensive reports to support decision-making and stakeholder communication. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex data while adhering to best practices in transparency and accountability.

Prepare financial and regulatory reports, including those mandated by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), in accordance with established guidelines and schedules.

Ensure adherence to tax legislation, employment statutes, and financial compliance requirements pertinent to performance management practices.

Ensure meticulous and secure documentation of performance outcomes.

Lead the development and creation of comprehensive talent analytics, encompassing key areas of talent management such as performance metrics, workforce trend analysis, succession planning, and identification of critical roles, alongside other relevant talent-related data insights.

• Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in a similar role, preferably within the finance or accounting sector.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field; professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) are advantageous.
• Proficiency in advanced Excel, financial modeling, and ERP systems, with a strong aptitude for data analysis.
• Exceptional analytical skills combined with meticulous attention to detail, enabling accurate financial reporting and strategic decision-making.
• Capacity to manage multiple high-priority projects while meeting strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, with a track record of guiding teams to achieve financial goals and drive operational improvements.
• Thorough knowledge of regulatory compliance, GAAP, and internal controls to ensure adherence to industry standards and organizational policies.

Experience in teacher training, program evaluation, or educational consulting is highly desirable. A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, finance, or a closely related discipline is required.

Professional certification in human resources or reward management, such as CIPD, GRP, or CHRIS, is highly desirable.

The ideal applicant will have successfully managed key responsibilities such as project coordination, team leadership, and client relations. With a minimum of six to eight years of HR experience, including at least three years specializing in performance management, candidates should ideally possess professional background in the banking or financial services industry.

Proficiency in Kenyan labor laws, remuneration frameworks, and Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) regulations is a prerequisite.
