POSITION OVERVIEW:
The role encompasses overseeing the daily medical care of outpatients while guiding and mentoring junior medical staff. This medical officer initiates outpatient evaluations and follow-ups, maintaining communication with lead surgeons to address any critical patient condition changes and obtain treatment and management recommendations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Executes a variety of critical responsibilities to ensure seamless operations and uphold organizational objectives. Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Medical Officer’s defined scope of clinical practice as necessary.
Upon evaluating pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, the individual will convey key findings to the primary surgeon in a clear and timely manner.
Diligently document comprehensive details in the patient’s medical record, including their medical history, examination findings, treatment strategies, diagnostic tests ordered, and all interventions performed.
Collaborate in the coordination of care initiatives to enhance patient throughput within the facility.
Confer with appropriate residents and/or primary surgeons to evaluate and manage the care of all outpatients and inpatients.
Initiate and oversee the diagnostic and therapeutic process for the patient, encompassing the requisition of essential radiology and pathology investigations, the administration of suitable pharmacological treatments, and the coordination of specialist consultations as needed.
Deliver on-the-spot training sessions tailored to the needs of junior medical personnel.
Facilitate clear, compassionate dialogue with patients and/or their immediate family members regarding their medical status and treatment progress.
At all times, the Medical Officer must maintain a valid and active license.
Oversees operational aspects of clinical support services, encompassing Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Nutritional Services.
Oversees the clinical officers working across the facility, ensuring adherence to established protocols and maintaining high standards of patient care.
Engage in departmental quality management initiatives in alignment with established Hospital Quality standards.
Oversee various additional responsibilities as needed to support departmental operations and objectives.

Seeking candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of three years of professional experience in a similar role. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Prior experience in project management or leadership positions is highly desirable, as is familiarity with regulatory compliance and best practices. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or an equivalent medical degree is required.
Licensed by the Medical Council of Kenya as a medical practitioner
A background in leadership and management, either through formal coursework or practical experience, is highly advantageous.
