POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role involves overseeing the daily medical care of outpatients while providing guidance and mentorship to junior medical staff. This medical officer initiates and evaluates outpatient care, maintaining communication with lead surgeons regarding any critical changes in a patient’s condition to obtain input on treatment and management strategies.

Responsibilities include: leading and managing teams to achieve departmental objectives; developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance operational efficiency; overseeing financial performance and budgeting processes; ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies; fostering a collaborative work environment that promotes innovation and productivity; evaluating employee performance and providing constructive feedback; coordinating cross-functional projects to align with organizational goals; and maintaining accurate records and reporting systems to support data-driven decision-making.

Executes a diverse array of critical duties, including but not limited to strategic planning, team leadership, and operational execution. Oversees daily activities to guarantee adherence to established policies and procedures while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. Collaborates cross-functionally to align departmental objectives with broader organizational goals, driving measurable performance improvements. Monitors key performance indicators to assess progress, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions as necessary. Manages resources efficiently to optimize productivity and cost-effectiveness. Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and internal governance frameworks. Cultivates an environment that encourages innovation, professional growth, and employee engagement.

Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Medical Officer’s defined scope of clinical practice, as needed.

Upon evaluating pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, convey key findings to the primary surgeon in a timely and accurate manner.

Diligently document all components of patient care—including medical history, examination findings, management strategies, diagnostic tests, and interventions rendered—directly within the patient’s official medical record to ensure comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date clinical documentation.

Collaborate in facilitating patient care coordination to enhance the efficiency of patient movement throughout the facility.

Confer with the appropriate residents and/or primary surgeons to evaluate and provide care for all outpatients and inpatients.

Initiate and oversee the diagnosis and treatment of the patient’s condition, which involves requesting essential radiology and pathology tests, administering suitable medication, and coordinating referrals for specialist consultations as needed.

Deliver concise, on-the-spot instruction to junior medical personnel to enhance their clinical skills and decision-making in real-time patient care scenarios.

Maintain ongoing dialogue with the patient and/or their immediate family regarding the patient’s health status.

Ensure the Medical Officer maintains a valid license at all times.

Overseeing clinical support services, such as Pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, biomedical engineering, and nutritional services, is a key responsibility.

Overseeing the performance of all clinical officers within the facility is a key responsibility.

Engage in departmental quality management initiatives in alignment with established Hospital Quality standards.

Assists with various additional responsibilities as assigned, which may include project coordination, data analysis, and stakeholder communication. These tasks ensure operational efficiency, adherence to deadlines, and alignment with organizational objectives. The incumbent is expected to adapt to evolving priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism in all endeavors.

We seek candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, complemented by a minimum of five years of professional experience in a similar role. Ideal applicants will demonstrate expertise in project management, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with industry-standard software tools. Prior leadership experience and a track record of successfully delivering complex initiatives are essential. Additionally, candidates must hold relevant certifications where applicable and maintain a commitment to continuous professional development.

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or an equivalent medical degree is required.

Licensed by the Medical Council of Kenya as a medical practitioner

A background in leadership and management, whether through formal education or practical experience, is highly desirable.
