We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of expert technical support for an international initiative aimed at bolstering digital skills and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. Additionally, this key position will advocate for greater workplace and labor market inclusivity for people with disabilities across seven countries in East, West, and Southern Africa.

The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will align the program’s design and execution with Sight savers’ thematic and program strategies, spearheading the development of pioneering, inclusive methodologies to foster systemic transformation and ensure sustainable outcomes.

This is a full-time, on-site position requiring the successful candidate to work from one of Sight savers’ offices in Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, five days per week.

Responsibilities

Offer strategic technical guidance for a cross-regional initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, while promoting greater disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to align efforts and achieve program objectives with maximum impact.

Pioneer transformative strategic initiatives that elevate the quality, relevance, and sustainability of Sight savers’ initiatives, fostering innovation and driving meaningful impact.

Facilitate collaboration across departments and external partners to advance research, innovation, policy development, advocacy initiatives, and communications efforts.

Serving as Sightsavers’ senior representative, you will leverage your expertise in digital inclusion and the digital economy to engage with national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector platforms.

The position requires travel commitments totaling up to 12 weeks annually.

The ideal candidate must meet several key criteria for this role. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in a comparable position is required, along with a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a must. Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, are critical for collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects efficiently is highly valued. Additionally, prior leadership experience or the capacity to mentor junior staff is preferred. Essential:

A master’s degree or higher qualification is required, with preference given to a PhD, in the fields of digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a closely related discipline.
