Purpose of the Job
The ICT Assistant – Network Administration role involves reporting to the Head of ICT and is tasked with evaluating information risk while supporting the remediation of identified vulnerabilities related to IT security and risks throughout Kenya Tea Packers. This position collaborates closely with the Database Administrator, Business Intelligence, and Reporting teams to coordinate ICT system support. Additionally, the role ensures secure network connectivity both within and between Keep offices, maintaining the integrity and security of the company’s systems.
Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, managing team performance, and ensuring project deadlines are met with precision. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional departments to align goals and deliver high-quality results. Additional duties involve analyzing data to inform strategic decisions, identifying opportunities for process improvements, and maintaining compliance with company policies and industry regulations. The position also demands strong communication skills to report progress to stakeholders and provide guidance to team members. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing priorities are essential for success in this role.
Evaluates connectivity key performance indicators—such as availability, utilization, throughput, and latency—to ensure optimal network performance. Additionally, the role involves strategically planning and implementing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of ICT infrastructure.
Oversee and administer all communications while addressing networking issues by proactively implementing preventive measures for the IT network, systems, and software applications.
Present detailed findings and actionable recommendations regarding identified vulnerabilities to the Head of ICT to facilitate prompt corrective measures.
Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments employing IT security tools and established methodologies to identify and document any IT security risks or exposures across the network, systems, and software applications.
Consults with users to define network specifications, evaluates workflow patterns, access needs, data requirements, and security protocols, and develops router administration strategies encompassing interface configuration and routing protocols.
Maintains optimal network performance through proactive monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning, while efficiently troubleshooting issues and escalating unresolved problems to appropriate vendors.
Develops and enforces network access protocols, continuously monitors network activity, implements security controls, and evaluates system integrity while ensuring all documentation remains current and accurate.
The Head of Cyber Defense and Security collaborates in regular assessments of firewall rules, configurations, and logs to strengthen cybersecurity measures by establishing access privileges, control frameworks, and resource allocations.
Provide support to the ICT Manager in evaluating and proposing enhancements to existing ICT policies, including the Disaster Recovery Plan, the Company Technology Infrastructure and Systems strategy, and the Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Enter, update, and track progress in the ICT support helpdesk system while delivering prompt, reliable, and ongoing assistance to all users of the information and telecommunication infrastructure.
Offer foundational training and assistance to users on network access and software application usage, while collaborating with the ICT Manager to ensure accurate documentation of all information systems.
Collaborate with vendor support teams to periodically evaluate and revise Service Level Agreements (SLAs), while addressing technical challenges related to end-user hardware, software, and network solutions such as MPLS, SD-WAN, and internet connectivity.
Ensure that all workstations, laptops, and servers within the domain and network infrastructure are equipped with licensed and up-to-date operating systems, as well as the latest versions of endpoint security software.
Verify that all computers integrate smoothly with a variety of systems, such as validation platforms, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.
Collaborate with the Head of ICT to develop the annual ICT training capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets.
Execute any additional tasks delegated by the Systems Administrator or the Head of ICT as required.

Maintain detailed records of support interactions in the designated ticketing system and adhere to established service level agreements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to diagnose complex issues and implement effective solutions. Stay current with emerging technologies and product updates to enhance support capabilities.
Develop and oversee the deployment of new hardware and software solutions. Manage the scheduling and execution of firmware updates as well as application and software upgrades.
Collaborate with vendors to address and resolve issues related to software and hardware malfunctions.

The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and attributes.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is required for this position.
A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in network administration is required.
Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEA) certification is required for this role.
Accomplished professionals with practical expertise in deploying, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure are sought after.
Proficient in networking technologies, architectures, and protocols with a deep understanding of their applications and configurations.
Proven expertise in configuring, installing, and troubleshooting routers.
