Purpose of Position

Provide strategic technical direction and ensure the effective execution of child protection initiatives—specifically addressing FGM and child marriage—within the AVUS-funded “The Kenya Big Dream” project, which operates in Arabic County. Drive efforts to empower households, enabling them to safeguard and nurture girls and boys, shielding them from all forms of abuse while enhancing overall child well-being outcomes.

The Project Officer will be responsible for leading community mobilization, intervention implementation, monitoring, and reporting addressing the adverse impacts of child marriage and FGM. They will also facilitate the adoption of social norms that prohibit these harmful practices and promote culturally accepted Alternative Rites of Passage. Additionally, the role involves strengthening local Anti-FGM movements by engaging women, men, girls, boys, youth, and even former circumcisers. The Project Officer will empower communities to establish safe and protective environments for children while reinforcing formal child protection systems at both National and County levels.
