The performance of the Accounting & Finance Associate plays a critical role in optimizing resource utilization, ensuring accurate financial recording, and maintaining efficient accounting and reporting processes. This position’s contributions are essential to enhancing management oversight, supporting informed decision-making, and upholding rigorous quality control standards.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities encompass a comprehensive range of strategic and operational duties integral to the role. The position demands a high degree of proficiency in executing core functions, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives while maintaining adherence to established policies and procedural guidelines. Accountabilities may include, but are not limited to, overseeing project milestones, managing cross-functional collaborations, and driving performance metrics to meet or exceed predefined targets. Additionally, the role requires meticulous attention to detail, robust problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to adapt to evolving business needs.

Compile and analyze financial data to produce reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining high levels of accuracy. Assist in compiling data, responding to queries, and supporting the preparation of reports to meet organizational requirements.

Serves as the Local Finance Focal Point, responsible for meticulously verifying invoices, ensuring accuracy in calculations, and validating submissions before forwarding them to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Oversee the upkeep of financial records by systematically tracking, reconciling, and verifying expenditures, balances, and payments to ensure accuracy in daily transactions.

Selected, verified, and entered data from various sources to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Prepare scheduled and ad-hoc reports to support audits, budgets, and other organizational requirements.

Provide support for account closure procedures and contribute to the preparation of year-end financial statements.

Offer expert counsel to staff and consultants regarding allowances, expense claims, and financial-related inquiries.

Initiate and manage correspondence to validate information and address inconsistencies, ensuring accuracy and clarity throughout the communication process.

The role involves cultivating strong partnerships with local banking institutions, tracking fluctuations in exchange rates, and ensuring accurate financial reconciliations.

Compile and evaluate cost projections while participating in budgetary reviews and initiatives.

A secondary education credential is a mandatory requirement for this position.

A minimum of six years of professional experience in finance and accounting is necessary for consideration.

Proficiency in developing and overseeing project plans, setting clear objectives, and delivering measurable outcomes while monitoring resource allocation—including time, budget, and team capacity—and proactively identifying potential risks is essential. Strong analytical skills are required to interpret data, pinpoint challenges, and translate findings into strategic recommendations that support informed decision-making. Additionally, expertise in utilizing digital solutions, AI-driven platforms, and integrated business systems is necessary to enhance data integrity, streamline management processes, and optimize reporting accuracy.

Fluency in English is an essential requirement for this role.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, or fluency in the local language of the assigned duty station, is advantageous.

Finance and accounting-related professional and academic coursework is strongly preferred.

Relevant country-level experience in development, fragile contexts, and humanitarian settings is highly advantageous.
