The performance of the Accounting & Finance Associate plays a pivotal role in optimizing resource utilization, ensuring precise financial recording, and maintaining accurate accounting and reporting. This position contributes significantly to strengthened management oversight, informed decision-making, and rigorous quality control throughout the organization.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

Prepare financial reports, compile relevant data, and address inquiries to ensure compliance and maintain accuracy.

As the Local Finance Focal Point, you will be responsible for validating invoices, ensuring the accuracy of calculations, and submitting them to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Monitor expenditures, reconcile balances, and verify payments to ensure accurate day-to-day transaction records.

Responsibilities include meticulously selecting, validating, and inputting data from a variety of sources while maintaining strict standards for completeness and precision.

Prepare recurring and special reports as required for audits, budgets, and other organizational needs.

Provide assistance with the closure of accounts at year-end and contribute to the preparation of financial statements for the fiscal year.

The role involves offering expert counsel to employees and consultants regarding allowances, expense reimbursements, and related financial issues.

Initiate correspondence to confirm data accuracy and resolve any discrepancies, ensuring all communications are handled promptly and professionally.

Serve as the Bank Liaison by cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with regional financial institutions, tracking exchange rate fluctuations, and compiling accurate account reconciliations.

Prepare cost estimates and support budgetary analysis and project planning efforts.

To meet the criteria for this role, you must demonstrate a strong commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of every child. This position requires a dedicated professional who can effectively champion the needs of children across various platforms and initiatives. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies to enhance child welfare, collaborating with stakeholders to address systemic challenges, and ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities for all children. Additionally, you will be expected to lead advocacy campaigns, engage with policymakers, and foster partnerships to drive meaningful change in support of children’s rights and development.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three years of relevant professional experience. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proficiency in industry-specific software. Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, are required to collaborate effectively with teams and stakeholders. Attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are also necessary. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to evolving industry trends.

A secondary education diploma or equivalent is mandatory for this position.

A minimum of six years of professional experience in finance and accounting is required.

Proficiency in developing and overseeing project plans, objectives, and deliverables is required, along with the capacity to monitor resources—including time, budget, and team efforts—and proactively identify potential risks. Strong analytical capabilities are essential for evaluating data, diagnosing challenges, and delivering actionable insights to inform strategic decision-making. Additionally, expertise in leveraging digital tools, AI-driven platforms, and business systems is necessary to enhance data quality, streamline management processes, and improve reporting accuracy.

Fluency in English is a mandatory requirement for this position.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, or the local language of the duty station, is regarded as a valuable asset.

Proficiency in finance and accounting, evidenced by relevant professional certifications or academic coursework, is strongly preferred.

Experience gained at the country level, especially in development initiatives, fragile environments, or humanitarian settings, is highly desirable.
