The Accounting & Finance Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal, appropriate, and effective utilization of resources while maintaining accurate financial records, accounting, and reporting. This position’s performance directly contributes to enhanced management oversight, informed decision-making, and rigorous quality control within the organization.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

Prepare financial reports, compile necessary data, and address queries to uphold compliance and ensure accuracy.

As the Local Finance Focal Point, you will be responsible for validating invoices, ensuring accuracy in calculations, and facilitating their submission to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Maintain accurate financial records by overseeing and reconciling expenditures, balances, and payments to ensure precision in daily transactions.

Data Management responsibilities include selecting, verifying, and entering data from various sources while ensuring its completeness and accuracy.

Prepare recurring and special reports, including those scheduled in advance and ad-hoc requests, to support audits, budgeting, and other operational requirements.

Provide assistance with year-end financial statement preparation and support the closure of accounts.

The role involves offering professional counsel to staff and consultants regarding allowances, claims, and other financial-related issues.

Initiate communications to verify data accuracy and address any discrepancies encountered.

The role involves cultivating strong partnerships with regional financial institutions, tracking fluctuations in exchange rates, and ensuring accurate reconciliation of accounts.

Budget Support: Develop comprehensive cost estimates and actively participate in budget analysis and project planning initiatives.

You must meet specific qualifications and possess the necessary skills to effectively support and empower each child in your care.

Minimum qualifications include three or more years of professional experience in a relevant field, a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, and proficiency with industry-standard software tools. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with project management methodologies and prior leadership experience are highly preferred.

A secondary education credential is mandatory for this position.

A minimum of six years of professional experience in finance and accounting is essential for this position.

Skilled in developing and overseeing project plans, objectives, and deliverables while efficiently monitoring resources such as time, budget, and team contributions and proactively identifying potential risks. Demonstrated expertise in data analysis, issue detection, and delivering actionable insights to support informed decision-making. Adept at leveraging digital tools, AI-driven platforms, and business systems to enhance data quality and reporting accuracy.

Fluency in English is a mandatory requirement for this position.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official United Nations language—including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish—or fluency in the local language of the duty station is regarded as a valuable asset.

Courses in finance and accounting at the professional or university level are strongly preferred.

Relevant professional experience at the country level, especially within development initiatives, fragile environments, or humanitarian operations, is highly advantageous.
