Position Summary
The ADT Africa Regional Partner possesses extensive knowledge in private equity within emerging markets, with a focus on regulated financial institutions pioneering digital financial services for MSMEs, smallholder farmers, and low-income households.
A strong applicant will possess hands-on experience leveraging technology to drive growth within financial institutions, working alongside ADT’s Operating Partner, Action Advisory, Action’s financial inclusion advisory team, and other expert groups to craft tailored digitization strategies for clients. They will engage directly with shareholders, board members, and leadership teams of portfolio companies to secure strategic alignment and support effective implementation.
The Africa Regional Partner will oversee an Investment Analyst, tailoring the role to the portfolio’s scale and regional opportunities. Approximately 25% of total investible capital is anticipated to be deployed in Africa, potentially encompassing co-investments by limited partners.
The position entails a diverse range of duties, including overseeing daily operations, managing team performance, and ensuring adherence to company policies. Key responsibilities involve coordinating projects, analyzing data to drive decision-making, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals. Additionally, the role requires maintaining strong client relationships, resolving issues promptly, and contributing to strategic planning initiatives. Proficiency in relevant software tools and industry standards is essential, along with a proven ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced environment.
Collaborating closely with the Managing Partners, the Africa Regional Partner oversees the complete investment lifecycle for the Africa portfolio, encompassing deal sourcing, execution, and exit, while providing global team support as necessary. Critical investment processes involve:
Evaluating prospective equity investments in alignment with ADT’s commitment to impact-driven objectives and its strategic focus on digital transformation initiatives.
Developing and managing comprehensive financial models, projections, and valuations to evaluate potential equity investments and divestments, and subsequently presenting these analyses to limited partners.
Conducting comprehensive deal analyses and formulating strategic investment recommendations for presentation to the Investment Committee.
Leading negotiations and finalizing agreements for transactions, with a strong emphasis on overseeing all legal documentation to ensure full adherence to ESG policy requirements.
Overseeing the equity portfolio and formulating and implementing responsible commercial exit strategies for portfolio companies.
Collaborate with the digital transformation team to devise and refine a digitization strategy aimed at enhancing value creation for prospective target companies, and assist in executing the strategy to ensure successful implementation.
Provide strategic guidance to portfolio companies by cultivating beneficial partnerships, securing additional debt and equity financing, and advising on key strategic matters, with a particular focus on ESG and digital transformation initiatives.
Serve as the ADT representative on the boards of portfolio companies, as and when deemed appropriate.
Develop and maintain co-investment consortia while cultivating robust partnerships with co-investors.
Offer continuous assistance to the Operations and Finance teams regarding the valuation and reporting of portfolio companies.
Collaborate effectively with Managing Partners to cultivate a compelling brand identity and foster a positive organizational culture, ensuring AIM consistently upholds industry-leading standards.
Facilitate investor relations and conduct due diligence assessments for prospective investors.
You will act as AIM’s representative in both local African markets and on a global scale, engaging in external professional development initiatives and knowledge-sharing efforts, as well as collaborating with Action when necessary.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience is required. Proficiency in specific programming languages and frameworks is necessary. At least three years of hands-on experience in a related role is preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently are essential. Familiarity with industry best practices and emerging technologies is a must. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial for collaboration.
With over fifteen years of advancing investment experience, particularly in private equity, you will exhibit a deep expertise in financial institutions and fintech, complemented by a proven ability to identify, manage, and divest investments across Africa.
Proven expertise in financial services and financial technology across African markets, encompassing operating models, regulatory frameworks, and competitive landscapes, is required.
Demonstrates a track record of successfully establishing and implementing regional investment strategies, encompassing the creation of proprietary pipelines, the recognition of emerging trends, and the alignment of investment initiatives with overarching organizational and impact goals.
Partnering with financial institutions to foster value creation, you will design and implement digital strategies that advance financial inclusion, leveraging a deep understanding of innovative approaches in this sector. Prior entrepreneurial experience is advantageous.
Proven capability to guide and mold strategic decisions made by the board and senior leadership, functioning as a reliable and insightful advisor on organizational growth and operational change initiatives.
