Job Summary
The successful candidate will lead the Digital Scholarship Centre, driving the adoption of digital media services, advocating for emerging media technologies, and managing the creation of multimedia resources for faculty, students, and staff at AKU. Additionally, they will provide hands-on support to advance the university’s core objectives in teaching, learning, and research.
Responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring efficiency and productivity across teams. Manages project timelines, allocates resources, and monitors progress to meet established goals. Collaborates with cross-functional departments to align objectives, resolve challenges, and foster a cohesive work environment. Implements process improvements to enhance performance, reduce costs, and streamline workflows. Conducts performance evaluations, provides coaching, and addresses performance-related issues to maintain high standards. Maintains compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety protocols. Prepares reports, analyzes data, and presents insights to senior leadership to support informed decision-making. Acts as a liaison with clients to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns promptly.
Oversee the comprehensive operations of the Digital Scholarship Centre, spearheading initiatives that foster its expansion, innovation, and enduring viability.
Spearhead the systematic archiving and preservation efforts for Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs.
Offer ICT assistance for digital research utilities, library technologies, and information systems, encompassing RFID systems and the Library Management System.
Facilitate the adoption and utilization of innovative media technologies to enhance educational experiences and scholarly pursuits.
Oversee the management and upkeep of the AKU Library’s electronic databases, guaranteeing their precision, availability, and timeliness.
Craft compelling graphic design, branding, and promotional materials for AKU publications, events, and marketing initiatives, ensuring a polished and cohesive visual identity.
Oversee the ongoing development and upkeep of the institutional digital repository, intranet pages, and web portals for AKU libraries across East Africa.
You will design, build, and regularly update Lib Guides, online learning resources, and digital courses to enhance and support academic programs.
Candidates must meet the following qualifications: a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a comparable role, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and proficiency in industry-standard software tools. Strong analytical skills, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential. Additionally, familiarity with regulatory compliance and project management principles is required.
A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Information Systems, or a closely related discipline, is required.
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Multimedia Technology, or an equivalent discipline is required.
A minimum of five years of professional experience within a high-volume academic setting is required.
Accomplished professionals with a track record of administering digital repositories and institutional archives—ideally utilizing Digital Commons—are encouraged to apply.
Experienced in developing online courses and e-learning materials, along with strong skills in graphic design and web development tools.
Proficiency in the practical application of Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and online discovery/search platforms is required.
Skilled in leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation, to drive transformative solutions.
Proven proficiency in scholarly communication and research support services is required.
Proven expertise in designing and maintaining library guides, subject-specific research aids, and other essential research support materials.
Proficiency in macOS and Windows operating systems is essential.
