Responsibilities

The intern will collaborate with the RSB, providing essential technical and coordination support for the execution of the Branch’s projects and programs. Additionally, they will assist in managing activities across the 18 Regional Seas. Reporting directly to the Coordinator, the intern will undertake the following responsibilities:

Prepare diverse communication materials across multiple formats, including Regional Seas newsletters, website articles, social media content, briefs, talking points, speeches, and human-interest stories.

Create engaging multimedia content, including photos, videos, infographics, presentations, and other promotional materials, to enhance the visibility of Regional Seas’ communication initiatives.

Support the development and execution of communication campaigns and visibility initiatives for major events, such as the Regional Seas global meetings, World Cleanup Day, and the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

Drive the dissemination of communication materials via digital channels, traditional media, and partner networks, ensuring Regional Seas communication platforms remain current by publishing news, events, and publications, while also maintaining and refreshing content and editorial schedules.

Support the Branch’s operations by fulfilling additional assignments as needed, aligning these tasks with the Intern’s interests and professional development goals.

A strong candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, engineering, or business administration, along with a minimum of three years of experience in a similar role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal English. Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and compliance standards is also required. The ideal applicant should demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Prior experience in a leadership or mentoring capacity is a definite advantage.

Applicants must satisfy one of the following criteria at the time of application: completion of a graduate-level academic program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or current enrollment in such a program.

Currently pursuing or having successfully completed the final year of an undergraduate university degree program, with a minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

Graduated from with a university degree in journalism, communications, media production, graphic design, information technology, or a related discipline.

Engage collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders, fostering a positive and professional rapport through excellent interpersonal abilities.

Demonstrates a proven aptitude for engaging effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and belief systems, characterized by an openness to comprehending and respecting varied perspectives and opinions.

Demonstrates a strong passion for the United Nations and an unwavering dedication to the principles outlined in the UN Charter. While candidates for the UN Internship Program are not required to possess prior professional experience, they must exhibit a sincere enthusiasm for the organization’s mission and values.

A relevant academic discipline closely aligned with the desired internship field is a prerequisite for consideration. Candidates are expected to articulate, with concrete examples, how their educational background fulfills this essential requirement.
