The role encompasses a diverse array of duties, including overseeing daily operations, managing project timelines, and ensuring adherence to company policies. The intern will collaborate with the Regional Seas Branch (RSB) to provide technical assistance and coordination support for the implementation of the Branch’s projects and programs, as well as facilitate cross-regional activity coordination across the 18 designated Regional Seas. Reporting directly to the Coordinator, the intern’s responsibilities will include:

Craft compelling and varied communication materials, including Regional Seas newsletters, website articles, social media content, briefs, talking points, speeches, and human-interest stories.

Create compelling multimedia content, including photographs, videos, infographics, presentations, and other promotional materials, to enhance the visibility of Regional Seas’ communication initiatives.

Provide assistance in the organization and implementation of communication campaigns and visibility initiatives for significant events, such as the Regional Seas global meetings, World Cleanup Day, and the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

Facilitate the dissemination of communication materials via digital channels, traditional media, and collaborative networks, ensuring Regional Seas communication platforms remain current by regularly uploading news, events, and publications while maintaining updated content and editorial schedules.

Support additional responsibilities to assist the Branch as needed, aligning with the Intern’s preferences and areas of interest.

Seeking a candidate with a minimum of five years of relevant experience and a proven track record in project management. Strong proficiency in industry-specific software, advanced Excel skills, and exceptional communication abilities are essential. The ideal applicant will demonstrate leadership in cross-functional teams, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the capacity to meet tight deadlines in fast-paced environments. Fluency in English and Spanish is highly desirable, as is a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Prior experience in international markets or multinational corporations is a significant advantage.

At the time of application, candidates must satisfy one of the following criteria: either enrollment in an advanced academic program (such as a master’s degree, equivalent qualification, or higher) or completion of such a program.

Applicants must either be enrolled in or have successfully completed the final year of an undergraduate university degree program, holding at minimum a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

Graduates from holding a university degree in journalism, communications, media production, graphic design, information technology, or a comparable discipline are encouraged to apply.

Exhibit exceptional interpersonal abilities, fostering positive interactions and relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Proven capability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and belief systems, demonstrating openness to comprehend and respect differing opinions and perspectives.

Demonstrates a strong passion for the United Nations’ mission and upholds the core values outlined in the UN Charter. While prior professional experience is not mandatory, candidates are expected to exhibit dedication to the organization’s principles.

A relevant academic background directly aligned with the internship field is mandatory. Applicants must substantiate their eligibility by providing concrete instances that demonstrate alignment with this requirement.

With a degree or coursework in communications, journalism, media, or a closely related discipline, you are eligible to apply for the United Nations Internship Program, even in the absence of prior professional experience.
