Job Summary

The Digital Scholarship Centre Lead will drive the adoption and integration of digital media services, advocate for emerging media technologies, and manage the creation of multimedia resources for AKU faculty, students, and staff. Additionally, the role will play a pivotal role in advancing the university’s core objectives in education, research, and academic excellence.

Oversee a comprehensive range of duties encompassing strategic planning, team leadership, and operational execution, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and compliance with industry standards. Foster collaboration across departments to streamline workflows and achieve cross-functional goals. Monitor performance metrics and provide data-driven insights to inform decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives. Lead by example, cultivating a culture of accountability, innovation, and adaptability within the team.

Oversee the comprehensive operations of the Digital Scholarship Centre and spearhead initiatives that foster its development, innovation, and enduring viability.

Spearhead the systematic archiving and long-term preservation of Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs.

Deliver technical assistance for digital research tools, library technologies, and information systems, with expertise in RFID systems and the Library Management System.

Facilitate the adoption and utilization of cutting-edge media technologies to enhance educational methodologies, instructional delivery, and scholarly investigations.

Oversee the upkeep and management of the AKU Library’s electronic databases, guaranteeing their precision, seamless accessibility, and ongoing relevance.

Craft visually compelling graphic design, branding, and promotional materials for AKU’s publications, events, and marketing initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional standards and objectives.

Revise and sustain the institutional digital repository, intranet pages, and web portals for AKU Libraries across East Africa to ensure seamless functionality and accessibility.

Design and manage Lib Guides, digital learning materials, and online courses that enhance academic program offerings.

Requirements

A master’s degree in Information Systems, or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification in a pertinent field is required.

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Multimedia Technology, or an equivalent field is required.

A minimum of five years’ experience within a dynamic academic institution is required.

Demonstrated expertise in overseeing a digital repository and/or institutional archive, ideally utilizing Digital Commons, is required.

With a proven track record in crafting online courses and e-learning materials, the ideal candidate will exhibit strong skills in graphic design and web development tools.

Proficiency in utilizing Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and online discovery/search platforms is required.

Skilled in leveraging cutting-edge technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital innovation to drive progress and enhance operational efficiency.

Proven proficiency in scholarly communication and research support services is required.

Experience in developing library guides, subject guides, and other research support resources.

Proficiency in macOS and Windows operating systems is required.
