What you’ll do:

As the University Guidance Counselor, you will be instrumental in shaping students’ academic and professional trajectories by providing comprehensive support throughout the university application process. Your key responsibilities will encompass guiding students through application procedures, offering strategic advice on college selection, and ensuring they are fully prepared to meet the demands of higher education. Additionally, you will assist students in refining their personal statements, preparing for interviews, and exploring scholarship opportunities to maximize their chances of success.

Guide students seamlessly through each phase of the university application journey, from identifying suitable institutions to securing financial aid, leveraging an in-depth knowledge of international study routes and British Curriculum prerequisites.

Collaborating with Essential Stakeholders: Engage proactively with educators, families, school administrators, and academic departments to track student performance and facilitate well-informed recommendations.

Enhancing Extracurricular Opportunities: Design and implement programs aimed at broadening students’ academic perspectives while coordinating career-focused events, workshops, and mentorship sessions to provide comprehensive guidance.

Build and sustain strategic partnerships with universities, with a particular emphasis on institutions in Africa and abroad, while overseeing university application platforms and digital tools.

A robust alumni engagement program should be developed to cultivate meaningful connections between current students and graduates, nurturing mutual growth in their academic pursuits and career advancement.

A background in university guidance, teaching, or the broader education sector is crucial, as it equips professionals with the insight needed to address students’ academic requirements and deliver meaningful assistance throughout the university application journey.

A strong understanding of the British Curriculum is essential to provide effective support to students within the DISC framework and to assist them in navigating relevant university pathways.

Exceptional communication and presentation abilities are essential, facilitating the drafting of recommendation letters, advising students and parents, fostering connections with educators and universities, and earning the trust of the broader school community.

A strong command of data management and digital tools is essential for overseeing student application data, monitoring progress, generating reports, and operating digital platforms with efficiency.

Proficiency in African and international higher education institutions allows for a diverse selection of academic options, ensuring students identify the most suitable programs for their needs.

Essential for planning and executing career fairs, workshops, and student enrichment activities, creative and event management skills play a vital role in expanding students’ perspectives.

A robust problem-solving aptitude is essential for establishing a new university guidance function, tackling challenges effectively, managing a demanding schedule, and assisting families unfamiliar with the university application process.
