We are seeking a motivated professional to join our team in this dynamic role. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to key initiatives while leveraging your expertise in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with precision. Responsibilities include conducting thorough research, analyzing data to identify trends, and presenting actionable insights to stakeholders. Additionally, the role requires proficiency in industry-specific tools, exceptional communication abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results. Prior experience in a similar capacity, along with relevant certifications, will be advantageous.

This role offers an entry-to-mid-level opportunity within DAKOTA’s Customer Intelligence (CI) team. Serving as a CI Research Associate, you will contribute to comprehensive UX and product research initiatives—spanning study design to the delivery of insights—while collaborating closely with senior researchers and cross-functional partners. The work involves conducting authentic research on tangible products for real customers, whose financial well-being hinges on seamless and effective experiences.

This hybrid position requires on-site work at our Kenya offices while collaborating with colleagues from our various international markets, including the UK, Europe, and Africa. You will report directly to the Research Operations Lead.

Why this Role is Different

In this role, you won’t be confined to a purely supporting position; instead, you’ll engage directly with groundbreaking products designed to empower first-time smartphone users, first-time borrowers, and first-time digital finance customers across five distinct markets. The challenges you tackle are intricate, the impact is immediate, and the team upholds a deep commitment to excellence in execution.

What You’ll be doing

Convene moderated usability tests, semi-structured interviews, and surveys while overseeing the complete logistics of fieldwork for both remote and in-person sessions, ensuring each session is meticulously prepared to generate high-quality data collection from the outset.

Crafting qualitative data into structured insights involves applying established frameworks to develop affinity maps, compile comprehensive insight lists, and generate meticulously organized reports. These deliverables effectively convert research findings into concise, practical recommendations tailored for seamless integration by your team and key stakeholders.

Contributing to established team research protocols, actively identifying ambiguities in briefs, and leveraging AI-powered tools—such as Claude and Notion AI—with discernment to determine when human oversight is necessary for the output.

What You’ll bring

Demonstrable expertise in UX research methodologies is essential, encompassing moderated usability testing, semi-structured interviewing, and survey design, along with a strategic grasp of method selection based on context and objectives.

Demonstrates a track record of effectively handling qualitative data by systematically coding responses, discerning underlying trends, and crafting synthesis deliverables—such as affinity maps and insight lists—through a disciplined, structured methodology.

You should possess a solid understanding of DAKOTA’s target markets or the broader landscape of first-time digital financial services users, coupled with a strong interest in the usability challenges inherent to this domain.
