A rapidly expanding East African hospitality firm is in search of a detail-oriented, proactive, and trustworthy General Accountant. The successful candidate will oversee daily financial operations, uphold accurate record-keeping standards, administer accounts payable and receivable, enforce rigorous statutory compliance, and deliver accurate monthly financial reports in a timely manner.

A gross monthly remuneration of KES 60,000 is offered for this position.

Oversee a diverse range of essential duties and responsibilities, ensuring adherence to established protocols and organizational standards. Develop, implement, and monitor strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives, resolve challenges, and drive continuous improvement. Maintain meticulous documentation, track progress, and report key performance indicators to stakeholders. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and professional development within the team. Uphold compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices to mitigate risks and ensure organizational integrity.

Post and process daily journal entries with precision to maintain the general ledger’s accuracy and currency.

Ensure all statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, SHIP, NSSF, and the Affordable Housing Levy, are accurately prepared and filed punctually through the KRA tax portal.

Conduct weekly and monthly reconciliations of bank, supplier, and customer statements to identify and address any discrepancies promptly.

Responsibilities include overseeing invoice processing, monitoring client aging reports, pursuing outstanding debts, and coordinating supplier payment schedules.

Ensure accurate monthly payroll preparation by meticulously calculating salaries, benefits, and deductions.

Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow forecasts to support management’s review and decision-making processes.

To facilitate seamless internal and external annual audit processes, meticulously arrange financial documents and files.

Assist with additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and priorities.

Job Specifications and Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a specialization in Accounting or Finance, or alternatively in Business Administration, is required.

Preferred candidates will hold at least Intermediate Level CPA-K or ARCA finalists, with strong preference given to those who have completed Part 2 of the CPA qualification.

We are seeking candidates with a minimum of four years of practical accounting experience, ideally gained within the hospitality sector.

Proficiency in accounting software and intermediate-to-advanced skills in MS Excel are required.

Proficiency in Kenyan tax regulations and hands-on expertise in utilizing the KRA tax system are essential.
