Purpose

The Senior Accountant specializing in Asset Management oversees the accounting treatment of all assets, ensures the upkeep of the fixed assets register, and mitigates risks associated with asset management. Additionally, the role involves handling accruals and prepayments, managing tax filings and compliance, and ensuring accounting and reporting adhere to applicable IFRS standards. The position further includes the management of payables and expenses, the strengthening of internal controls, and the facilitation of audits, budgeting, and forecasting processes in alignment with company policies.

Job Magnitude

Reports to the Finance Manager and collaborates extensively with the Projects, Operations, and other internal teams. Maintains regular communication with external partners, including suppliers and auditors, to support financial and operational objectives.

This position plays a pivotal role in upholding financial integrity by ensuring the precise recognition of assets, expenses, and accruals. It significantly influences the quality of financial reporting, audit preparedness, and stakeholder satisfaction through the timely execution of audits and the implementation of robust internal controls.

Provides support in executing budgeting and forecasting processes as needed.

The role encompasses a wide range of essential tasks and obligations designed to ensure operational efficiency and team success. Key responsibilities include managing daily workflows, coordinating team efforts, and overseeing project timelines to meet organizational goals. Additionally, the position requires strong communication skills to liaise with stakeholders, clients, and internal departments, fostering collaboration and transparency. Problem-solving and adaptability are critical, as the role demands quick decision-making to address challenges and optimize processes. Proficiency in relevant software and tools, along with a commitment to continuous improvement, is expected to drive productivity and innovation within the team.

Execute comprehensive accounting functions for all asset categories, including fixed assets, intangible assets, and IFRS 16 lease arrangements, ensuring full adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) throughout the process.

Perform fixed asset verification and affix asset tags to maintain an accurate, real-time asset register in coordination with the operations team.

Track and oversee accruals and prepayments while ensuring their precise timing of recognition and strict adherence to established accounting policies.

Oversee the asset management function, which encompasses maintaining the asset register, generating schedules, producing reports, and conducting reconciliations.

Prepare audit-ready schedules and supporting documentation for assets, accruals, prepayments, and tax-related matters. Assist with the budgeting process, financial forecasting, and the preparation of management reports.

Ensure adherence to tax regulations by managing VAT and WHT filings, conducting monthly reconciliations, and updating internal ledgers accordingly.

Ensure the timely renewal of asset insurance to proactively manage associated risks.

Oversee treasury operations and ensure adherence to compliance standards for the holding entity.

Responsibilities include accurately documenting and postponing commission payments in accordance with contractual terms and projected revenue streams.

Execute any additional responsibilities delegated by leadership as needed.

Hard Skills

A reputable institution must confer a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a closely related field.

A member in good standing of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (IC PAK) or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ARCA).

Demonstrates comprehensive expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), with a working understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) serving as an additional asset.

With a minimum of six years of experience in a fast-paced financial setting, you must demonstrate expertise in asset management and a deep commitment to compliance standards.

Those with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel will be given preference.

We seek candidates with practical experience utilizing QuickBooks and proficiency in operating Asset Management systems.

Proficiency in Oracle software applications would be considered beneficial for this role.

Proficiency in leadership and project management would be highly beneficial.
