The primary accountability involves overseeing and managing key operational areas to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Responsibilities include developing and implementing policies, monitoring progress toward goals, and fostering collaboration across departments. Additionally, the position requires strong analytical skills to assess data, identify trends, and make informed decisions. To deliver thorough eye care services, we conduct clinical evaluations, diagnose visual and ocular conditions, and develop management plans, all while advocating for eye health and ensuring patients receive necessary optical corrections or are referred for additional treatment as needed.

Oversee a range of critical duties, including managing project timelines, coordinating team efforts, and ensuring adherence to established protocols. Develop and implement strategies to optimize workflow efficiency and enhance collaborative efforts across departments. Monitor progress meticulously, address any discrepancies promptly, and provide detailed reports to stakeholders as required. Facilitate clear communication channels to ensure all team members are aligned with organizational objectives and project milestones. Additionally, identify potential risks, propose mitigation measures, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Perform thorough eye examinations encompassing visual acuity testing, refraction, slit lamp evaluation, and ocular health assessment to ensure accurate diagnosis and patient care.

Diagnose and oversee refractive errors and prevalent ocular conditions, adhering to the established scope of practice.

Evaluate and recommend suitable corrective lenses, eyeglasses, and other optical appliances to meet patients’ visual needs with precision and care.

Identify potential ocular disease symptoms early and escalate advanced cases to ophthalmologists or dedicated healthcare centers.

Conduct standard diagnostic assessments, including iodometry and visual field evaluations.

Offer comprehensive patient education regarding eye care practices, preventive strategies, and effective management of chronic ocular conditions.

Ensure the meticulous and prompt documentation of patient information within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.

Maintain strict compliance with infection prevention and control protocols within the eye clinic.

Maintain and perform routine checks on optometric equipment to ensure accuracy and safety.

Engage in community outreach programs and initiatives aimed at promoting eye health, fostering awareness, and enhancing education within the public domain.

Responsibilities include tracking inventory levels of optical supplies and overseeing the organization and distribution of lenses and consumable materials to maintain adequate stock levels.

Engage in clinical audits, Safe Care evaluations, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives to uphold and enhance healthcare standards.

Verify adherence to national optometry regulatory standards and licensing criteria.

Maintain professionalism, safeguard patient confidentiality, adhere to ethical standards, and deliver respectful patient care consistently.

Job Qualifications & Skills

Earned a Diploma or Degree in Optometry from an accredited academic institution.

A current and valid professional license issued by the Optometrists Association of Kenya or another appropriate regulatory body is required.

A minimum of two years of professional experience in a hospital or an accredited eye care facility is required.

Proficient in refractive methodologies and the identification of ocular diseases through screening.

Proficiency in EMR systems and optical dispensing processes.

Exceptional ability to communicate with patients and provide effective counseling services.

Maintains a high level of professionalism, demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, and adheres to strict ethical standards.
