Job Purpose

The Managing Director & CEO will spearhead strategic planning, design, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage electricity transmission grids and regional power interconnectors.

The job is also responsible to the Board of Directors for strategic direction and implementation of the Company’s strategic goals, vision, mission and strategic objectives, mobilization and management of its resources, directing and providing leadership, in order for the Company to achieve its mandate as stated in Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2004 on Energy, Energy Act No. 1 of 2019 and as established under the State Corporations Act, Cap 446.

Key responsibilities involve managing and overseeing projects to ensure timely completion, adhering to quality standards, and aligning with organizational objectives. This includes delegating tasks to team members, monitoring progress, and addressing any potential challenges or obstacles that may arise during execution. Additionally, duties encompass collaborating with cross-functional departments to gather requirements, providing regular updates to stakeholders, and ensuring all deliverables meet specified benchmarks. Strong leadership skills are essential to motivate the team, foster a productive work environment, and drive successful outcomes.

Demonstrating strong leadership to senior management and staff teams;

The role involves managing the planning, design, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage electricity transmission grids and regional power interconnectors.

Facilitating the advancement of national and regional power trade initiatives to drive socio-economic growth remains a critical responsibility.

Demonstrating comprehensive leadership while overseeing all operational functions of the Company in alignment with Board directives.

Oversee the execution of all Government Directs, Administrative Circulars, and

Executive Orders pertinent to the Company’s mandate are issued.

The role involves overseeing adherence to regulations and standards throughout the creation, refinement, and execution of strategic goals, policies, and initiatives.

Establishing and nurturing high-level relationships across regulatory bodies, government ministries, departments, agencies, development partners, and other key stakeholders—both domestically and internationally—is a critical responsibility of this role.

Managing the acquisition of goods, works, and services, as well as inventory and asset disposal, in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

To secure and deploy resources essential for advancing the Company’s Strategic Plan, leveraging avenues such as the Exchequer, Development Finance Institutions, Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), and alternative funding mechanisms.

Responsible for spearheading the development and execution of new revenue streams and business prospects within the organization.

Providing strategic guidance to the Board of Directors regarding business opportunities that drive the Company’s expansion and long-term viability.

Developing and executing Human Resource policies and organizational frameworks that are transparent, equitable, and incorporate well-defined succession planning initiatives.

Our responsibilities include enforcing corruption prevention strategies by applying established policies and submitting regular reports to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACH).

Effectively managing corporate risks, maintaining rigorous quality standards, and implementing robust internal controls are essential responsibilities of this role.

Cultivating a favorable corporate reputation through strategic initiatives and consistent messaging to enhance brand perception and stakeholder trust.

Crafting and executing the Strategic Plan, Business Strategies, and tariff revenue requirements to ensure alignment with both the Company’s immediate and long-term goals.

Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the Company’s markets and industry landscape enables the identification of strategic opportunities and competitive advantages.

Dynamic opportunities emerge for business expansion and investment, fostering growth and innovation across diverse sectors.

To guarantee alignment of the annual budget, procurement plan, work plan, and performance contract with the organization’s strategic objectives and priorities.

The department is tasked with maintaining precise financial and accounting records that adhere to all applicable legal regulations.

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, computer science, or mathematics, along with at least three years of professional experience in a related role. Strong proficiency in data analysis, programming languages, and project management tools is essential, along with excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. The ideal applicant will have experience leading cross-functional teams and delivering solutions that align with organizational objectives. Additionally, familiarity with industry standards, compliance regulations, and emerging technologies is highly desirable.

Applicants must possess a relevant academic qualification, typically a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field, such as engineering, computer science, or business administration. This position requires a solid educational foundation to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the core principles and methodologies pertinent to the role.

A Master’s degree obtained from an accredited university is required.

A recognized institution must confer a Bachelor’s Degree.

Professional credentials and affiliations with recognized industry organizations are required.

Membership in a relevant professional organization, when applicable, and in good standing, is required.

A current and valid professional license or practicing certificate, as required by applicable regulations, must be maintained.

A recognized institution must issue a Leadership certificate, with the course spanning a minimum of four weeks.

Proficient in utilizing office automation tools and applications to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.

Experienced professionals with a proven track record in the specified field are sought after. Applicants must demonstrate relevant hands-on experience in roles that align with the job’s core responsibilities. A minimum of three to five years in a related position is typically required, though this may vary depending on the seniority level of the role. Candidates should highlight measurable achievements and key contributions in prior positions to showcase their expertise and problem-solving capabilities. Familiarity with industry-specific tools, methodologies, and best practices is essential for success in this capacity.

Fifteen (15) years of progressive professional experience is required, with a minimum of five (5) years dedicated to senior management roles.
