We are seeking a skilled Research for Development professional to lead and support initiatives aimed at driving innovation and sustainable progress. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive research, analyze data, and develop actionable insights to inform strategic decision-making. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams, securing funding through grant applications, and disseminating findings to stakeholders. Additionally, you will assess the impact of development projects, identify opportunities for improvement, and contribute to policy formulation. The ideal candidate must possess a strong background in research methodologies, excellent analytical and communication skills, and a proven track record in securing external funding. A minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with at least three years of experience in development research or a closely related discipline.

Lead the design and execution of cutting-edge insurance and financial products, with a focus on comprehensive bundled solutions tailored to the needs of extensive, semi-intensive, and intensive livestock farming systems.

Prepare timely index reports for the indexed financial products.

Spearhead and participate in research initiatives focused on enhancing the quality of financial products, with particular emphasis on product pricing and associated tools.

Oversee the data collection process and perform sophisticated analysis of intricate datasets through the application of geospatial methodologies.

Lead the preparation of comprehensive project reports and collaborate as a co-author on peer-reviewed publications.

Provide valuable contributions to the project’s initiatives concerning relevant themes and topics while receiving direction from the supervisor.

Assist in fostering relationships with key institutional stakeholders—such as private sector entities and senior government officials—to enhance understanding of climate risk financing strategies.

Capacity development and knowledge management initiatives are designed to enhance organizational effectiveness by strengthening skills, processes, and systems. This role involves designing and implementing training programs, fostering knowledge-sharing platforms, and leveraging technology to improve institutional learning and innovation. Key responsibilities include assessing training needs, developing tailored curricula, and measuring the impact of capacity-building efforts. Additionally, the position requires collaboration with stakeholders to ensure alignment with strategic goals, as well as maintaining up-to-date knowledge management systems to facilitate continuous improvement and informed decision-making.

Collaborate with the scientist to develop, oversee, and execute the procurement and organization of materials and resources essential for achieving the group’s research objectives.

Gather, organize, and maintain data derived from analytics for efficient access and management.

Assess current strategies and contribute to the preparation of proposals, establish key milestones, and facilitate the execution of research initiatives.

Prepare high-quality project reports and papers, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards for professional presentation.

Deliver geospatial products punctually for all assigned projects.

Provide consistent support for resource mobilization initiatives by assisting with proposal development and cultivating new prospects.

Requirements

A master’s degree in actuarial science, statistics, finance, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in financial product development. Additionally, the role demands expertise in applying remote sensing and GIS technologies within the context of agriculture or natural resources.

Advanced analytical methodologies are employed to design cutting-edge indemnity, indexed, and hybrid financial products, with a primary emphasis on pricing strategies.

Skilled in conducting statistical analysis and constructing logically sound models.

Proven expertise in calculating indices and generating reports for indexed financial instruments is required.

Experience with the geospatial analysis of remotely sensed datasets.

Experience of working with multi spectral satellites.

Demonstrates a strong background in collecting field data specifically for geospatial analysis applications.

Has good working knowledge of remote sensing and GIS software, Database and software such as Arc GIS, ENVI and e-Cognition.

Substantial experience in scripting such as R/ Python and Google Earth Engine.

Proficient in both written and verbal English communication, with the capability to effectively engage with a wide range of audiences.

Skilled in collaborating effectively within diverse, interdisciplinary, and cross-cultural teams with a high degree of autonomy, while seamlessly integrating contributions from various disciplines and backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to undertake extensive travel to rural and remote project locations across various countries.

A proven track record of publications, along with experience in resource mobilization and contributions to project proposals, would be considered highly advantageous.

Effectively convey ideas through written and verbal means for academic journals and publications subject to peer review.

Programming expertise in R, Python, and State is required for this role. Proficiency in these statistical and data analysis tools is essential to perform core job functions effectively. Candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience and a strong foundation in at least one of these programming languages to succeed in this position.
