Job Description

Finance employees are tasked with receiving, recording, and overseeing financial transactions while implementing internal controls to ensure the protection of sacred funds—donated in strict accordance with God’s commandments—dedicated to advancing the Church’s religious mission under the guidance of senior ecclesiastical leaders. This entry-level professional accounting role requires the application of accounting principles to specialized financial records and reports, with primary responsibilities including the day-to-day maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger as well as the preparation of basic financial statements.

Responsibilities

Compiling journal entries and performing necessary adjustments form an integral part of the role’s responsibilities.

Initiating general ledger file maintenance involves ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records. Performing account reconciliations and reviews helps identify discrepancies and validate financial data. Additionally, clearing outstanding items in the ledgers maintains up-to-date and compliant financial information.

Review expenditures to ensure alignment with the allocated budget, perform detailed reconciliations as required, conduct thorough investigations into discrepancies, and post corrective journal entries as needed.

Assembles and maintains diverse financial projections and expense documentation in support of organizational decision-making and compliance efforts.

Responsible for conducting audits of project accounts to ensure adherence to established policies and regulations. Additionally, maintains communication with relevant stakeholders to provide updates on the progress and status of these projects.

Assisting in the development and mentoring of priesthood leaders alongside other junior accounting professionals.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A minimum of three years of professional experience in a similar role is essential. Proficiency in programming languages, including but not limited to Python, Java, or C++, is mandatory. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are critical. Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, are necessary to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Familiarity with software development methodologies and tools is advantageous.

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management—with a focus on financial accounting—is required.

Professional qualification and active membership in recognized professional bodies, including CPA(K), ARCA, CISA, or equivalent certifications, are essential requirements for this role.

The successful candidate must possess a thorough understanding of the accountant’s code of conduct and exhibit a strong command of financial and accounting theory, along with familiarity with established accounting principles and policies, including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Professional accounting experience of at least four to six years is required.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in utilizing computerized accounting systems, demonstrating a high level of expertise and hands-on experience in their operation.

We require strong proficiency in essential computer applications, specifically Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint, along with substantial hands-on experience in their use. Familiarity with Oracle or People soft systems would be particularly beneficial.

Seeking a candidate with strong analytical skills to interpret intricate accounting problems and financial statements effectively.

Able to design and implement robust accounting systems aimed at effectively reducing financial risks.

Strong reconciliation expertise is essential for this role.

A strong sense of initiative and the ability to work towards and achieve set objectives independently are essential for this role.

Must possess strong proficiency in both written and spoken English, demonstrating exceptional communication abilities.

Requires strong interpersonal abilities and proficiency in effectively engaging with colleagues, management, and priesthood leaders.

A thorough grasp of church organizational structure is essential for this role.
