"Nurturing agricultural expertise since 1947."
The EMB Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College was founded in 1947 as a vocational training institution, offering certificate-level agricultural education to Kenya African Preliminary Examination (TAPE) students. In 1968, the institution was renamed the EMB Institute of Agriculture and expanded its programs to include two-year certificate training for secondary school graduates, preparing them as Technical Assistants. By 1990, it had evolved into the Agricultural Staff Training College, focusing on designing and delivering short-term management and technical courses while providing research and consultancy services to advance agricultural sector performance.
This phase continued until June 2011, when the institution was upgraded to EMB University College through Legal Notice No. 65 of 17th June 2011. The University College Council was subsequently inaugurated, following its transition from EAST College, by President MWA Kabuki. A landmark moment occurred on 7th October 2016, when EMB University College officially attained full university status, transitioning from a Constituent College of the University of Nairobi to an independent university. The University of EMB was formally granted a Charter by His Excellency President Uluru Kenyatta during a ceremonial event at State House, Nairobi. Its mission is to serve as a leading institution in higher education and research, specializing in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Water and Biological and Physical Sciences.
The university aims to establish itself as a center of excellence in agricultural learning and research, both within Kenya and internationally, fostering innovation in farming systems and related disciplines.
