The position involves overseeing key operational functions to ensure seamless business performance. The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of exceptional technical assistance for a cross-border initiative aimed at bolstering digital competencies and employment prospects among young individuals with disabilities. Additionally, this critical position will advocate for enhanced disability inclusion in both workplace environments and labor markets across seven countries spanning East, West, and Southern Africa.

The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will be responsible for aligning the program’s design and implementation with Sight savers’ thematic and program strategies, while spearheading the development of innovative, inclusive approaches to foster systemic change and sustainable impact.

This is a full-time, on-site position requiring the successful candidate to work from the Sight savers office in Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, Monday through Friday.

Oversee a wide array of duties including strategic planning, team leadership, project execution, and performance monitoring to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and productivity across departments. Foster collaboration with key stakeholders, both internal and external, to drive innovation and achieve key performance indicators. Monitor industry trends and competitive landscapes to identify opportunities for growth and risk mitigation. Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate progress, challenges, and strategic recommendations to senior management. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while upholding high ethical standards in all business operations.

Deliver high-level technical guidance for a cross-border initiative aimed at enhancing digital competencies and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, concurrently fostering greater disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to achieve cohesive, high-impact delivery of program objectives.

Spearhead innovation by developing and implementing pioneering strategic initiatives designed to elevate the quality, pertinence, and long-term sustainability of Sight savers’ initiatives.

Play a key role in collaborative initiatives spanning research, innovation, policy, advocacy, and communications, partnering with both internal teams and external stakeholders across the organization.

Serving as Sightsavers’ senior representative, you will leverage deep expertise in digital inclusion and the digital economy to engage with national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector platforms.

The position may require travel for up to 12 weeks annually.

The ideal applicant will possess a minimum of five years of experience in a comparable role, along with proficiency in industry-standard tools and software. Strong analytical abilities, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of delivering results are essential. Additionally, familiarity with project management methodologies and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are required. The Graduate Trainee Leader (GTL) will possess deep expertise in employment and labor market dynamics within Africa’s digital and IT industries, with a focus on skills’ development, training initiatives, and pathways to employment. Driven by a strong commitment to inclusive development, they will champion the advancement of rights for individuals with disabilities through forward-thinking and results-driven programming.

They will serve as a strategic partner, bringing experience in cross-functional collaboration across varied teams and regions. The position requires international travel of up to 12 weeks annually to facilitate program execution and stakeholder relations.

Possesses a clear grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges surrounding artificial intelligence and digital technologies, alongside their broader consequences for skills development, employment, decent work, and labor market dynamics within African and Global South settings.

Seasoned professionals with a proven track record in designing, implementing, and scaling digital skills initiatives, vocational training programs, and employment transition frameworks—particularly within regions of the Global South—are encouraged to apply.

Individuals should possess prior experience collaborating within non-governmental or non-profit organizations, specifically in roles involving the administration of programs financed by donors.

Demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse labor market stakeholders—with a particular emphasis on private sector partners—to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.

Demonstrates a comprehensive grasp of recent advancements in AI and digital technologies, along with their transformative impact on employment and labor markets across African and Global South regions.

Fluent proficiency in both spoken and written English is required, alongside the capability to prepare comprehensive reports and conduct effective presentations.

Proven expertise in analytical and strategic thinking, coupled with the capacity to develop plans from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.

Accomplished leadership capabilities, robust networking expertise, and adept stakeholder engagement are essential, along with strong diplomatic acumen and a tactful approach.

Experience working on TVET systems.

Possesses a proven track record of collaborating with key tripartite labor market stakeholders—most notably private sector entities within digital industries—to enhance employment prospects and promote fair working conditions.

Demonstrates a strong capacity for cross-functional collaboration and thrives in varied team environments.

Experienced in designing, refining, and implementing technical guidance frameworks along with programming utilities to enhance operational efficiency and support development initiatives.

A dedicated commitment to fostering disability inclusion, promoting equality, and upholding justice within digital and employment environments.

Open to undertaking international travel for a period of up to 12 weeks annually.
