The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will oversee the delivery of exceptional technical support for an international initiative aimed at improving digital competencies and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. In this key position, the GTL will drive efforts to promote workplace and labor market inclusion for people with disabilities across seven countries spanning East, West, and Southern Africa.

The GTL will oversee the design and execution of the program in accordance with Sight savers’ thematic and strategic frameworks, actively contributing to the development of forward-thinking, inclusive methodologies that foster systemic transformation and sustainable outcomes.

This position is a full-time, on-site opportunity requiring the successful candidate to be based in the Sight savers office in one of the following cities: Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, and to work five days each week.

Responsibilities

Offer strategic technical direction to a cross-regional initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills and employability for young people with disabilities, simultaneously driving forward disability inclusion within workplace environments and labor markets spanning East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to align efforts and achieve program objectives with high impact.

Spearhead transformative projects by developing and implementing forward-thinking strategic initiatives designed to elevate the quality, applicability, and long-term viability of Sight savers’ initiatives.

You will collaborate on interdepartmental initiatives focused on research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications, partnering with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders to drive collective impact.

At a senior level, serve as a distinguished representative of Sight savers, leveraging deep expertise in digital inclusion and the digital economy to engage in national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector platforms.

The position requires the incumbent to undertake travel obligations of up to 12 weeks annually.

As a strategic collaborator, the successful candidate will work seamlessly across multifaceted teams and global locations. This role requires international travel, extending up to 12 weeks annually, to facilitate program execution and foster stakeholder relationships.

The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications and possess the necessary skills to excel in the role. Experts should exhibit a clear grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, along with their broader consequences for skill development, job opportunities, fair labor practices, and evolving employment landscapes in African and Global South settings.

With a proven track record in designing, implementing, and scaling programs focused on digital skills, workforce training, and employment transitions—particularly in regions of the global South—you will spearhead initiatives that bridge digital divides and enhance economic opportunities. Your expertise in program leadership and development will be instrumental in fostering inclusive growth and equipping individuals with the competencies required for modern job markets.

Individuals should possess a background in non-governmental or non-profit organizations, specifically in overseeing programs financed by donors.

Demonstrates a strong track record in collaborating with diverse labor market stakeholders—particularly within the private sector—to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.

Demonstrates a comprehensive grasp of emerging trends in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, along with their broader implications for employment and labor markets across African and Global South regions.

Proficient in both spoken and written English, with a strong capacity for crafting comprehensive reports and delivering compelling presentations.

Demonstrated proficiency in analytical reasoning and strategic planning, enabling the ability to develop and execute plans from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.

A strong ability to lead, build networks, and engage stakeholders effectively, coupled with exceptional diplomatic and tactful communication skills.

Experience working on TVET systems.

Proven success in collaborating with tripartite labor market stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on private sector engagement—especially within digital industries—to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.

Demonstrates a consistent track record of successfully engaging with colleagues across various departments and thriving in multidisciplinary team environments.

Skilled in creating and modifying technical guidance materials and software applications, with a focus on practical implementation and user-centric design.

Dedication to advancing disability inclusion, equity, and justice within digital and employment environments is essential.

Able and prepared to undertake international travel for a duration of up to 12 weeks annually.

Desirable:

Fluent command of the French language is required.
