About the role
The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of exceptional technical assistance for a cross-border initiative aimed at bolstering digital proficiency and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. In addition, this key position will advocate for greater workplace and labor market inclusivity for people with disabilities across seven nations in East, West, and Southern Africa.
The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will align the program’s design and implementation with Sight savers’ thematic and program strategies, spearheading the development of innovative, inclusive methodologies to foster systemic transformation and enduring impact.
This position is a full-time, on-site role requiring the successful candidate to be based in the Sight savers office in one of the following cities: Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, with in-office attendance expected five days a week.
Oversee and execute key operational duties, ensuring alignment with organizational goals through meticulous planning and efficient resource allocation. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance productivity, while monitoring performance metrics to identify areas for improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, foster innovation, and maintain high standards of quality and compliance. Provide leadership and guidance to staff, cultivating a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional growth. Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders, addressing concerns and facilitating clear, timely communication to support decision-making and project success.
Offer expert technical guidance to a cross-regional initiative aimed at enhancing digital competencies and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, while concurrently promoting inclusive workplace practices and equitable labor market access throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.
Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to deliver program objectives in a cohesive and impactful manner.
Spearhead the development and implementation of forward-thinking strategic initiatives designed to elevate the quality, impact, and long-term sustainability of Sight savers’ projects and programs.
You will collaborate on interdepartmental initiatives focused on research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications, engaging with both internal colleagues and external partners to drive collective impact.
As a senior subject-matter expert in digital inclusion and the digital economy, this role will involve representing Sight savers at national, regional, and international levels, engaging with key networks, conferences, and sector platforms.
The position requires up to 12 weeks of travel annually.

As a strategic partner, the incumbent will collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and global offices. This role requires up to 12 weeks of international travel annually to oversee program implementation and foster key stakeholder relationships.

Essential:
A Master’s degree or higher—ideally a PhD—in digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a closely related field is required. Alternatively, equivalent professional experience may be considered.
Professionals must exhibit a clear grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges surrounding artificial intelligence and digital technologies, alongside their potential consequences for skill development, employment opportunities, fair labor practices, and the dynamics of labor markets across African and Global South regions.
Seasoned in spearheading and enhancing initiatives focused on digital proficiency, vocational training, and workforce integration, particularly within the global South.
Successful candidates must possess a proven track record in designing, implementing, and overseeing donor-funded initiatives within non-governmental or non-profit organizations, demonstrating hands-on experience in program management and stakeholder engagement.
Demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse labor market stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on engaging the private sector to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.
A robust grasp of emerging trends in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, along with their broader implications for employment patterns and labor markets across African and Global South settings, is essential.
Fluent proficiency in both spoken and written English is essential, enabling the preparation of comprehensive reports and the delivery of compelling presentations.
Demonstrates exceptional analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, enabling effective planning from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.
Proven ability to lead teams, build strategic partnerships, and engage stakeholders with professionalism and finesse.
Experience working on TVET systems.
Extensive experience collaborating with key labor market stakeholders in a tripartite framework, with a particular emphasis on partnerships with the private sector—especially within digital industries—to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.
Demonstrated expertise in fostering cross-functional collaboration and thriving within multidisciplinary team environments.
Developing and adapting technical guidance materials and programming tools represents a key area of expertise.
Demonstrates a strong dedication to fostering disability inclusion, ensuring equality, and upholding justice within digital and employment environments.
Capable of and committed to undertaking international travel for periods extending up to 12 weeks annually.
Desirable:
Professional experience in advocating for underrepresented communities, with a focus on incorporating individuals with disabilities into inclusive frameworks.
Fluent command of the French language is required.
