The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of premium technical support for an expansive multi-country initiative aimed at strengthening digital skills and employment prospects among young individuals with disabilities. Additionally, this key position will advocate for enhanced workplace and labor market disability inclusion across seven countries spanning East, West, and Southern Africa.

The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will be responsible for designing and executing the program in strict adherence to Sight savers’ thematic and program strategies, spearheading the development of pioneering, inclusive methodologies that catalyze systemic transformation and foster enduring, sustainable outcomes.

This position requires full-time, on-site work at the Sight savers’ office in one of the following cities: Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, with attendance required five days per week.

Develops and executes strategic plans to meet departmental objectives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Oversees daily operations, monitors performance metrics, and implements process improvements to enhance efficiency. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to foster innovation and drive project completion. Provides leadership and guidance to team members, promoting professional growth and accountability. Manages budgets, allocates resources, and reports on financial performance to senior management. Identifies and mitigates risks, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies.

Offer strategic technical guidance for a multinational initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, while simultaneously fostering greater disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to deliver program objectives effectively and cohesively.

Spearhead the development and implementation of pioneering strategic initiatives designed to elevate the quality, relevance, and sustainability of Sight savers’ initiatives.

You will collaborate on interdisciplinary initiatives spanning research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications, engaging with both internal colleagues and external partners to drive collective impact.

Act as Sightsavers’ senior representative, leveraging deep expertise in digital inclusion and the digital economy to engage in national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector platforms.

The position requires travel commitments amounting to up to 12 weeks annually.

This position requires a dynamic strategic partner with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across multifaceted teams and global locations. The role entails extensive international travel—up to 12 weeks annually—to advance program execution and foster meaningful stakeholder relationships.

The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as finance, accounting, business administration, or economics, and ideally hold a professional certification like CPA, CFA, or PMP. A minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial analysis, strategic planning, or corporate development is essential, with at least two years in a managerial role. Proficiency in advanced Excel, financial modeling, and ERP systems is required, along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. The ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage stakeholder relationships, and drive data-driven decision-making is critical. Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and compliance standards is also necessary.

Essential:

A master’s degree or higher—preferably a PhD—in digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a closely related field is required, along with equivalent professional experience.

Candidates should exhibit a clear grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges in AI and digital technologies, along with their broader consequences for skills development, employment, fair work, and labor market dynamics in African and Global South settings.

With a strong background in designing and implementing initiatives focused on digital skills’ development, training, and facilitating transitions into employment, particularly in the global South, the ideal candidate will bring proven experience in program leadership and growth.

Proven track record in non-governmental or non-profit settings, with expertise in overseeing programs funded by donors.

Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively with diverse labor market stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on engaging the private sector, to enhance employment opportunities and promote fair work standards.

Possesses a comprehensive grasp of recent advancements in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, along with their far-reaching consequences for employment patterns and labor markets across Africa and the Global South.

Proficient in both spoken and written English, with a strong capability to compile comprehensive reports and deliver effective presentations.

Demonstrate exceptional analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, coupled with the proficiency to develop plans from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.

Exceptional leadership abilities, robust networking expertise, and adept stakeholder engagement, coupled with a high degree of diplomacy and tactful communication.

Extensive hands-on experience with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (VET) systems is required for this role.

With a proven track record in collaborating with key stakeholders across the tripartite labor market—particularly within the private sector and digital industries—this role focuses on enhancing employment prospects and promoting decent work standards.
