The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of expert technical support for an international initiative aimed at improving digital proficiency and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. Additionally, this critical position will advocate for enhanced disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets across seven countries spanning East, West, and Southern Africa.

The GTL will align the program’s design and execution with Sight savers’ thematic and program strategies, spearheading the development of innovative, inclusive methodologies to foster systemic change and ensure sustainable impact.

This is a full-time, on-site position requiring the employee to work from the Sight savers office in Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi five days a week.

Responsibilities

Offer strategic technical guidance to a cross-regional initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, while simultaneously promoting disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Partner with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to achieve unified, high-impact delivery of program objectives.

Deliver groundbreaking strategic initiatives that elevate the quality, relevance, and sustainability of Sight savers’ operations through pioneering innovation.

Collaborate across organizational boundaries in research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications initiatives, partnering with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive shared objectives.

As a senior representative for Sight savers, you will serve as a leading authority in digital inclusion and the digital economy, engaging with key stakeholders at national, regional, and international levels through active participation in networks, conferences, and sector-specific platforms.

The position requires up to 12 weeks of travel annually.

As a strategic collaborator, you will bring extensive experience collaborating across diverse teams and global locations. This role requires up to 12 weeks of international travel annually to facilitate program delivery and foster stakeholder engagement.

The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications: a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar role, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and proficiency in industry-standard software tools. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential. Additionally, excellent communication and teamwork abilities are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. A commitment to professional development and staying current with industry trends is also expected.

Essential:

A master’s degree or higher, with a preference for a PhD, in fields such as digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a related discipline—or equivalent professional experience—is required.

A solid grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges in AI and digital technologies, along with their broader implications for skills development, employment, decent work, and labor market dynamics across African and Global South contexts, is essential.

Seasoned professionals with a strong track record in designing, implementing, and scaling initiatives focused on digital literacy, targeted training programs, and pathways to employment—particularly within regions of the global South—are invited to apply.

Individuals should possess prior involvement in non-governmental or non-profit environments, with a focus on overseeing programs financed by donors.

Demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse labor market stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on private sector engagement, to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.

Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of recent advancements in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, along with their broader impacts on employment and labor market dynamics within African and Global South settings.

Possesses strong proficiency in both spoken and written English, enabling the creation of comprehensive reports and the delivery of compelling presentations.

Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities are required, enabling effective planning from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.

You must demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities, strong networking expertise, and adept stakeholder engagement, all while maintaining the highest standards of diplomacy and tact.

Experience working on TVET systems.

Previous experience of engaging with tripartite labour market stakeholders, especially the private sector and especially in digital sectors, to improve employment and decent work outcomes.

Demonstrated capacity to engage collaboratively with various departments and contribute productively to heterogeneous team environments.

Developing and modifying technical guidance materials and programming tools with proven expertise is required.

A clear commitment to disability inclusion, equality, and justice in digital and employment spaces.

Capable of and committed to undertaking international travel for as many as 12 weeks annually.
