Job Summary
The Digital Scholarship Centre Lead will drive the adoption of digital media services, advocate for emerging media technologies, and manage the creation of multimedia resources to support AKU’s faculty, students, and staff while advancing the university’s core missions in teaching, learning, and research.
Oversee and manage the full range of duties associated with this role, ensuring all operational tasks are completed with precision and adherence to established protocols. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute projects efficiently, maintaining clear communication channels and fostering a cohesive working environment. Develop and implement strategic initiatives that drive productivity, innovation, and continuous improvement within the department or organization. Monitor performance metrics, analyze outcomes, and provide actionable insights to enhance efficiency and achieve key objectives. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, internal policies, and quality standards while managing stakeholder expectations.
Oversee the complete operational management of the Digital Scholarship Centre while spearheading initiatives that foster its expansion, innovation, and enduring viability.
Spearhead the archiving and long-term preservation initiatives for Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs.
We offer technical assistance for digital research tools, library technologies, and information systems, such as RFID systems and the Library Management System.
Facilitate the incorporation and practical utilization of innovative media technologies to enhance educational delivery, student engagement, and scholarly inquiry.
Responsible for the ongoing oversight and management of the AKU Library’s electronic databases, with a focus on maintaining their precision, ensuring ease of access, and guaranteeing they remain up-to-date.
Develop high-quality graphic design, branding, and promotional materials for AKU publications, events, and marketing initiatives.
Oversee the ongoing development and management of the institutional digital repository, intranet platforms, and web portals for AKU libraries across East Africa.
Design and manage Lib Guides, digital learning resources, and online courses to enhance academic program support.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of progressive experience in financial reporting, compliance, or audit. Proficiency in GAAP standards, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with ERP systems are mandatory. Strong analytical abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams. Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and prior exposure to month-end close processes are advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to accuracy, timeliness, and continuous professional development.
A master’s degree in Information Systems or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent qualification in a pertinent field, is required.
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Multimedia Technology, or an equivalent discipline is required.
We require a minimum of five years of professional experience within a fast-paced academic environment.
Seasoned professionals with a track record of overseeing digital repositories and/or institutional archives, ideally utilizing Digital Commons, are encouraged to apply.
Proven expertise in developing online courses and e-learning materials, coupled with strong skills in graphic design and web development tools.
Hands-on expertise in Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and online discovery/search platforms is required.
Possesses a strong command of cutting-edge technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital advancements.
Proven expertise in scholarly communication and research support services is required.
Skilled in designing and producing library guides, subject-specific resources, and various research support materials to enhance user accessibility and learning outcomes.
Proficient in macOS and Windows operating systems with comprehensive knowledge of their respective functionalities and applications.
