Objective

Our healthcare client is seeking a Theatre Nurse to collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key duties involve overseeing daily operations to ensure seamless workflow efficiency, managing cross-functional teams to drive project completion, and maintaining rigorous compliance with organizational policies and industry standards. Responsibilities also include analyzing performance metrics to identify opportunities for process improvements, fostering a collaborative work environment, and leading initiatives to enhance productivity and innovation. Additionally, the role requires coordinating with senior leadership to align strategic goals with operational execution, addressing potential challenges proactively, and ensuring all deliverables meet established quality benchmarks.

Ensure all operating theaters are meticulously prepared and that every piece of equipment is thoroughly sterilized and prepared for upcoming procedures.

During surgical procedures, collaborate closely with surgeons and anesthetists by efficiently supplying necessary instruments and upholding strict aseptic protocols.

Monitor vital signs of patients consistently throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases to ensure accurate and timely data collection during surgical procedures.

Deliver comprehensive nursing care encompassing both pre-operative and post-operative phases, with an emphasis on patient education and supportive counselling.

Deliver comprehensive scrub, circulating, and recovery nursing assistance across various surgical specialties, ensuring seamless perioperative care and optimal patient outcomes.

Maintain rigorous adherence to aseptic protocols and infection control measures.

Attend departmental meetings, engage in ongoing medical education (CME) programs, and contribute to quality improvement projects.

Provide patients and their families with comprehensive guidance regarding treatment protocols, proper medication administration, and strategies for maintaining optimal health.

Engage proactively in evaluating patients, developing tailored treatment strategies, overseeing progress, and ensuring consistent follow-up care to optimize health outcomes.

Accurately document surgical procedures and patient progress in detailed records.

Maintain strict compliance with infection prevention and control protocols within the theater environment.

Ensure specimens are handled with safety and care while maintaining accurate documentation for laboratory analysis purposes.

Provide assistance during urgent surgical procedures as needed.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, computer science, or mathematics. A minimum of three years of professional experience in a related role is required, along with proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, or C++. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with industry-standard tools and methodologies, such as Agile or Scrum, is highly desirable, as is the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.

A Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) Diploma is required for this position.

Higher Diploma in Perioperative Nursing, an advanced qualification designed for nursing professionals seeking to specialize in surgical care environments, is required. Candidates must possess a valid nursing license and demonstrate at least two years of clinical experience in perioperative settings. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to strict aseptic techniques, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. Proficiency in operating room protocols, equipment operation, and emergency response procedures is essential. Additionally, the role demands strong communication skills to educate patients and families about surgical processes while maintaining a high standard of clinical excellence.

Licensed by the Kenya Nursing Council
