Job Description

Finance employees are tasked with receiving, accounting for, and monitoring funds, while also establishing internal controls to protect sacred donations (given in strict accordance with religious principles) for the Church’s religious objectives under the guidance of senior ecclesiastical leaders. This role functions as an entry-level professional accounting position, where the incumbent applies established accounting principles to specialized records and reports. The position requires assisting in the daily upkeep of a precise and comprehensive general ledger, as well as generating fundamental financial reports.

Oversee the execution of daily operations to ensure alignment with organizational objectives, implementing processes that enhance productivity and efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement, streamline workflows, and mitigate operational risks. Monitor performance metrics, analyze data trends, and report findings to senior leadership to inform strategic decision-making. Maintain compliance with industry regulations, internal policies, and quality standards while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Additionally, oversee budget adherence, resource allocation, and vendor relationships to optimize cost-effectiveness and operational sustainability.

Compiling journal entries along with necessary adjusting entries forms a key element of this role. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring these entries are accurately recorded in accordance with established accounting standards and internal policies. This process supports the integrity of financial reporting and facilitates compliance with regulatory requirements.

Initiating and maintaining accurate general ledger files, performing thorough account reconciliations and reviews, as well as promptly clearing outstanding ledger items are essential responsibilities.

Responsible for examining expenditures in relation to allocated budgets, preparing required reconciliations, performing detailed investigations, and recording correcting entries as needed.

Prepares a range of financial estimates and expense reports in support of organizational decision-making processes.

Responsibilities include conducting thorough audits of project accounts to verify adherence to established policies and regulations, ensuring accuracy and compliance throughout the financial processes. Additionally, this role entails communicating with relevant stakeholders, providing updates on the status and outcomes of these projects, and addressing any inquiries or concerns they may have regarding the audit findings.

Assisting in the development and guidance of priesthood leaders alongside other junior accounting professionals.

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, complemented by a minimum of three years of experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, alongside experience with database management systems. The ideal applicant will demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and collaborative skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams. Familiarity with agile methodologies and version control systems like Git is also required. Additionally, excellent communication skills and the capacity to adapt to evolving technologies are highly desirable.

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management—with a specialization in financial accounting—is required.

Holders of recognized professional qualifications and active membership in relevant professional bodies—such as CPA(K), ARCA, or CISA—are required for this role.

Professionals in this role must adhere to the accountant code of conduct while exhibiting a thorough understanding of financial and accounting theory, policies, and generally accepted accounting principles.

A minimum of four to six years of professional accounting experience is required.

Requires significant hands-on experience with computerized accounting systems, including proficiency in widely used platforms and advanced technical skills.

Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is essential, along with substantial hands-on experience in these programs. Familiarity with Oracle or People soft is highly desirable and may provide a competitive edge in the selection process.

Proficient in interpreting and resolving intricate accounting challenges and financial statements is required.

Capable of designing and implementing robust accounting systems to effectively identify and mitigate potential risks is essential.

Strong reconciliation expertise is essential for this role.

Self-motivation and a strong focus on achieving objectives are essential qualities for this role.
