Job Summary
The successful candidate will oversee the establishment and management of the Digital Scholarship Centre, driving the adoption of cutting-edge digital media services and fostering innovation in new media technologies. They will be responsible for coordinating the development of multimedia resources tailored to the needs of AKU’s faculty, students, and staff while advancing the institution’s core objectives in teaching, learning, and research.
Oversee daily operations to ensure seamless workflow and adherence to established protocols. Develop and execute strategic plans that drive team performance and organizational growth. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Monitor key performance indicators to assess progress and identify areas for enhancement. Maintain open communication channels with stakeholders to align on objectives and address concerns promptly. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies at all times. Lead initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Oversee the complete operational workflow of the Digital Scholarship Centre while spearheading strategic initiatives that foster its expansion, innovation, and lasting viability.
Spearhead the archiving and preservation initiatives for Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs.
Provide technical assistance for information and communication technology (ICT) systems, encompassing digital research tools, library technologies, and information platforms such as RFID systems and the Library Management System.
Facilitate the incorporation and utilization of cutting-edge media technologies within educational and research contexts to enhance teaching, learning, and investigative efforts.
Oversee the upkeep and management of the AKU Library’s electronic databases, guaranteeing their precision, availability, and timeliness.
Create visually compelling graphic designs, cohesive branding solutions, and impactful publicity materials tailored specifically for AKU publications, events, and marketing initiatives.
Oversee the ongoing updates and maintenance of the institutional digital repository, intranet pages, and web portals for the AKU libraries across East Africa.
Create and oversee Lib Guides, digital learning resources, and online courses to align with and enhance academic programs.
Seeking a highly motivated individual with a proven track record in [specific field, e.g., project management], preferably holding a [relevant degree or certification]. A relevant discipline or equivalent qualification, as well as a Master’s degree in Information Systems, is required.

A minimum of five years of professional experience within a high-volume academic institution is required.
Experienced professionals with a track record in overseeing digital repositories and/or institutional archives are sought, ideally using Digital Commons.
Proven expertise in developing online courses and e-learning materials, coupled with strong skills in graphic design and web development tools.
Seeking candidates with practical expertise in utilizing Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and online discovery/search platforms.
Strong competency in cutting-edge technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital innovation is required.
Proven proficiency in scholarly communication and research support services is required.
Seasoned in crafting comprehensive library guides, subject-specific resources, and various research support materials to enhance user engagement and accessibility.
Proficient in macOS and Windows operating systems, with a comprehensive understanding of their respective functionalities and features.
