Purpose of Position

Provide strategic technical direction and oversee the effective execution of child protection initiatives—specifically addressing female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage—within the AVUS-funded “The Kenya Big Dream” project. This role entails contributing to the empowerment of households in Arabic County, enabling them to safeguard and foster the well-being of girls and boys, thereby protecting them from all forms of abuse and enhancing overall child welfare outcomes.

The Project Officer will facilitate community mobilization, intervention implementation, monitoring, and reporting addressing the adverse impacts of child marriage and FGM. This role involves promoting social norms that prohibit these harmful practices, integrating communally accepted and owned Alternative Rites of Passage, and strengthening local Anti-FGM movements among diverse groups, including women, men, girls, boys, youth, and circumcisers. Additionally, the Project Officer will empower communities to foster safe and protective environments for children to flourish while reinforcing formal child protection systems at both the National and County levels.

Responsibilities

Accomplished experts in devising, strategizing, and executing projects are sought to ensure seamless design, meticulous planning, and flawless implementation.

In the course of executing the Kenya BIG DREAM project, lead the integration of child protection and gender considerations by promoting the adoption of best practices, approaches, and models.

Ensure the rigorous application of business processes, standards, and guidelines concerning child protection initiatives throughout project implementation and monitoring phases.

Assist in developing the comprehensive work plan and budget for the Kenya BIG DREAM project.

Formulate activity plans and allocate budgets for technical support initiatives focused on the child protection component of the project.

Work collaboratively with designated ward and county government ministries and partners at both the ward and county levels, as well as within communities, to integrate and execute all child protection initiatives with the highest level of efficiency.

We facilitate the creation of a robust, collaborative network focused on child protection and Anti-FGM initiatives, uniting key government and non-governmental institutions.

Ensure the effective and high-quality execution of child protection interventions by maintaining close coordination with the Project Manager.

Interpret and implement design guidelines, ensuring their application at the Project and ADP levels.

Ensure adherence to all Design, Monitoring & Evaluation (DME) protocols alongside donor-established guidelines and standards.

Collaborating with programs, we assess local needs and available resources to implement suitable programming initiatives.

Spearhead the creation and refinement of high-quality project Annual Work Plans, budgets, and Detailed Implementation Plans.

To guarantee prompt mobilization and maintain clear, consistent communication with both communities and supervisors throughout the implementation phase, this role requires proactive coordination and timely updates.

Ensure all reports and other pertinent DME products are submitted punctually.

Provide specialized technical expertise to guide the planning and design of project-specific operational research initiatives, encompassing both baseline and Edline evaluations focused on child protection outcomes.

Promote the adoption of optimal methodologies, frameworks, and models throughout the project implementation phase to ensure adherence to industry best practices.

Collaborate effectively with pertinent authorities to guarantee that all child protection measures implemented within communities conform to established Child Protection Standards.

Collaborate with fellow team members to uphold the necessary standards for essential training programs, ensuring they effectively facilitate, reinforce, and impart knowledge of desired child protective behaviors and practices.

Engage in comprehensive assessments of Dips, budgets, and other critical implementation tools, while pioneering innovative strategies to advance child protection initiatives within the designated operational area.

Facilitate robust engagement from community members, children, and partners throughout the stages of planning, implementation, and monitoring to foster inclusive collaboration and collective ownership.

Quality Assurance professionals are responsible for overseeing, recording, and analyzing processes to ensure adherence to established standards and protocols. This role involves meticulously monitoring operations, compiling detailed reports, and maintaining accurate documentation to support compliance and continuous improvement initiatives. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential, as is the ability to communicate findings clearly and effectively.

Provide technical support for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) initiatives in child protection, working closely with the DME Officer to ensure effective coordination.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual reports to monitor and document progress against critical performance indicators, incorporating key insights, lessons learned, and success stories for comprehensive evaluation and strategic decision-making.

Assist in creating and distributing educational materials to support learning initiatives.

In collaboration with partners, organize and implement Anti-FGM and Child Marriage campaigns, as well as open days, in conjunction with the observance of international days.

Mobilize, equip, and empower churches, other faith-based organizations, and community-based groups to integrate child protection interventions effectively.
