POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role involves overseeing the everyday medical treatment of outpatients while also guiding and mentoring junior medical staff. The Medical Officer leads the evaluation and follow-up of outpatient cases, maintaining communication with lead surgeons to address any critical changes in a patient’s condition and determine appropriate treatment strategies.
Execute all necessary duties related to the primary function of the role, which includes performing a comprehensive array of tasks that support organizational objectives. Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Medical Officer’s defined scope of clinical practice as dictated by clinical needs.
Examine pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, then relay key findings to the primary surgeon for informed decision-making.
Accurately document the patient’s medical record with their history, examination findings, management plans, investigations conducted, and actions taken.
Facilitate the efficient coordination of patient care to enhance throughput within the facility.
Conduct comprehensive evaluations of both outpatient and inpatient cases in collaboration with attending residents and/or lead surgeons.
Initiate and oversee the diagnostic process and treatment plan for the patient’s condition, which involves requesting essential radiology and pathology examinations, administering suitable medication, and coordinating referrals for specialist consultations as needed.
Deliver immediate, practical instruction to junior medical staff to support their professional development and clinical competence.
Facilitate open and clear dialogue with patients and/or their immediate family members regarding their health status and ongoing treatment.
The Medical Officer must maintain a valid and current license at all times.
Oversees clinical support services encompassing Pharmacy, laboratory operations, radiology, biomedical engineering, and nutritional services.
Oversees the performance and coordination of all clinical officers within the facility, ensuring adherence to established protocols and standards of care.
Engage in departmental quality management initiatives in alignment with established Hospital Quality standards.
Perform additional tasks as assigned, including but not limited to administrative support, project coordination, and cross-departmental collaboration. Responsibilities may involve maintaining records, preparing reports, and assisting with event planning as needed. The role requires adaptability to shifting priorities and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently while ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organizational skills and the capacity to work independently or as part of a team are essential, along with a commitment to supporting broader organizational objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a similar role. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, as is excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Previous experience in project management or a related discipline is highly desirable.
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) or an equivalent degree.
Registered with the Medical Council of Kenya as a medical officer.
A background in leadership and management, whether through formal coursework or practical experience, is highly advantageous.
