The Accounting & Finance Associate plays a pivotal role in optimizing resource utilization, ensuring accurate financial recording, accounting, and reporting—key components that strengthen management oversight, support informed decision-making, and uphold quality control standards.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities include:

Responsibilities include compiling and preparing financial reports, consolidating data, and addressing inquiries to uphold compliance and ensure precision in all deliverables.

Serves as the Local Finance Focal Point, ensuring the accuracy of invoices, calculations, and submissions forwarded to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Maintain accurate records by systematically overseeing and reconciling expenditures, balances, and payments for daily transactions.

Data Management responsibilities include selecting, verifying, and inputting information gathered from multiple sources, with a strong emphasis on maintaining completeness and precision throughout the process.

Prepare scheduled and ad-hoc reports to support audits, budgets, and other organizational requirements as needed.

Support the year-end account closure process and contribute to the preparation of financial statements for year-end reporting.

Provide expert counsel to staff and consultants regarding allowances, claims, and other financial-related inquiries.

Initiate communications to verify information and resolve any discrepancies in data.

Responsibilities include cultivating and sustaining strong connections with local banking institutions, tracking exchange rate fluctuations, and conducting reconciliation of financial records.

Duties encompass preparing detailed cost estimates, participating in budgetary analyses, and supporting various financial projects to ensure fiscal accuracy and efficiency.

To qualify for this role as an advocate for every child, you must demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all children. You will be expected to possess exceptional communication skills, enabling you to engage effectively with children, families, and diverse stakeholders. A deep understanding of child development, safeguarding policies, and relevant legislation is essential, alongside the ability to assess risks and advocate for children’s rights. Your responsibilities will include identifying and addressing concerns, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring that every child receives the support and protection they need to thrive.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with three or more years of professional experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is required, and familiarity with web development frameworks like React or Angular is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team are essential. Additionally, candidates must possess excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and a commitment to continuous learning to stay current with evolving technologies.

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.

A minimum of six years of proven professional experience in finance and accounting is essential for this role.

Proficiency in developing and overseeing project plans, objectives, and deliverables is essential, alongside monitoring resources such as time, budget, and team contributions while proactively identifying potential risks. Strong analytical capabilities are required to assess data, pinpoint challenges, and deliver practical insights to inform strategic decisions. Additionally, hands-on experience with digital tools, AI-driven platforms, and business systems is necessary to enhance data quality and reporting processes.

Proficiency in English is a mandatory prerequisite for this role.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official United Nations language—such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish—or in the local language of the assigned duty station is viewed favorably.

Desirable qualifications include relevant professional or university-level coursework in finance and accounting.

Experience in country-level roles, especially within development initiatives, fragile environments, or humanitarian operations, is highly beneficial.
