A highly detail-oriented and analytical Accountant is required to manage the complete financial operations of CIS Kenya’s accounting department. This position involves maintaining precise financial records, ensuring adherence to all regulatory and statutory requirements, delivering prompt financial reports, and demonstrating responsible stewardship of organizational assets. Additionally, the role entails offering strategic financial guidance to the Governing Council and the Finance & Audit Committee.

Oversee and execute a range of critical duties, including leading strategic initiatives, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Implement and monitor processes to enhance efficiency, identify and mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement across departments. Collaborate with senior leadership to develop actionable plans, allocate resources effectively, and measure performance against key metrics. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and internal policies. Serve as a key liaison between executives, stakeholders, and external partners to facilitate seamless communication and decision-making.

Responsibilities include overseeing daily casebooks, performing monthly bank reconciliations for both payables and receivables, and administering donor funding accounts through QuickBooks.

Compiling quarterly expenditure reports, crafting strategic cash flow status statements, and conducting meticulous budget comparisons are key responsibilities within this role.

Statutory & Tax Compliance: Ensure precise preparation and submission of PAYE, VAT, NSF, NAIF, and Withholding Tax (WHT) returns through the KRA online and ETFMS platforms.

Ensure the organization is prepared for year-end audits, uphold accuracy in the fixed asset register, and collaborate closely with external auditing teams.

Ensure full compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019 when handling sensitive financial and stakeholder information.

What We Are Looking For

A degree in Accounting or Finance is required, along with full certification as a CPA (K) or progression to ARCA finalist status.

With a minimum of ten years of demonstrated experience in comparable accounting positions, candidates should possess a thorough understanding of Kenyan tax regulations. Prior involvement in an NGO, development finance institution, credit sector organization, or audit firm is particularly advantageous.

Technical Proficiency: Demonstrates advanced expertise in Excel and financial reporting, complemented by comprehensive proficiency in both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop versions.
