How can you make a difference?

The performance of the Accounting & Finance Associate plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal, appropriate, and effective allocation of resources, as well as the accurate recording, accounting, and reporting of financial activities. This responsibility supports management in maintaining oversight, making informed decisions, and upholding strong quality control measures.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

Oversee financial reporting duties by compiling, preparing, and validating reports, data sets, and queries to maintain compliance and ensure precision in all financial documentation.

Serve as the Local Finance Focal Point, responsible for meticulously reviewing invoices, ensuring the accuracy of calculations, and facilitating timely submissions to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Monitor and reconcile expenditures, balances, and payments on a daily basis to ensure accurate and up-to-date financial records.

Data Management responsibilities include selecting, verifying, and entering information from various sources while maintaining strict standards of completeness and accuracy.

Prepare recurring and special reports, including scheduled and ad-hoc deliverables, to support audits, budgetary analysis, and other critical business requirements.

Provide support in the closure of accounts and contribute to the preparation of year-end financial statements.

Offer counsel to staff and consultants regarding allowances, claims, and other financial-related concerns.

Correspondence and inquiries are managed by initiating contact to validate data accuracy and address any discrepancies that may arise.

As a Bank Liaison, you will be responsible for cultivating and sustaining relationships with local banking institutions, tracking exchange rate fluctuations, and ensuring accurate financial reconciliations.

Budget Support: Develop comprehensive cost estimates and actively participate in budget analysis initiatives and projects.

Additionally, you must possess strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and a deep understanding of child-centered policies and practices to drive meaningful change and empower young individuals to thrive.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, complemented by at least three years of progressive experience in financial analysis, accounting, or a closely related discipline. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software is essential, as is the ability to interpret complex financial data and produce accurate reports. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are required, along with meticulous attention to detail and the capacity to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Secondary education completion is mandatory for this position.

A minimum of six years of practical experience in finance and accounting is a prerequisite for this role.

Demonstrated capability to develop and oversee project plans, goals, and outcomes, while monitoring resource allocation—including time, budget, and team contributions—and proactively identifying potential risks. Skilled in evaluating data, diagnosing challenges, and delivering practical recommendations to support informed decision-making. Adept at utilizing advanced digital tools, AI-driven platforms, and integrated business systems to enhance data integrity, streamline analytics, and strengthen reporting processes.

Fluency in English is an essential requirement for this position.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, or fluency in the local language of the assigned duty station, is regarded as a valuable asset.

Proficiency in finance and accounting through professional certifications or university-level coursework is strongly preferred.

Proficiency in development initiatives at the country level, especially within fragile environments and humanitarian settings, is highly beneficial.
