The performance of the Accounting & Finance Associate significantly influences the optimal allocation and effective utilization of resources, as well as the accuracy and efficiency of financial recording, accounting, and reporting. This role plays a pivotal part in enhancing management oversight, guiding strategic decision-making, and ensuring robust quality control within the organization.

Responsible for overseeing key functions and delivering on core accountabilities, this role requires executing critical tasks with precision and accountability. The incumbent will manage essential duties, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives while maintaining high standards of performance. Key accountabilities include driving operational excellence, fostering collaboration across teams, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. Additionally, the position demands strategic problem-solving, adaptability to evolving priorities, and a commitment to continuous improvement in all deliverables.

Prepare financial reports, compile data, and resolve queries to uphold compliance and ensure accuracy.

The Local Finance Focal Point ensures the accuracy of invoices, validates calculations, and submits documents to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Maintain accurate records by tracking and verifying expenditures, balances, and payment transactions on a daily basis.

Data management responsibilities include selecting, verifying, and inputting information from various sources while maintaining strict standards for completeness and precision.

Prepare recurring and special reports to support audits, budgeting, and other critical requirements, ensuring timely and accurate delivery as scheduled or requested.

Support the closure of accounts and assist in the preparation of year-end financial statements.

The position involves offering expert counsel to employees and consultants regarding allowances, claims, and financial-related inquiries.

Initiate and manage correspondence to validate information and reconcile any inconsistencies.

The Bank Liaison role involves cultivating and sustaining strong partnerships with regional financial institutions, tracking fluctuations in exchange rates, and conducting thorough reconciliations to ensure accuracy.

Responsibilities include developing cost estimates and providing support in budget analysis and project planning.

You must possess a strong commitment to advocating for the well-being and success of every child to meet the qualifications for this role. A deep understanding of child development, education, and social equity is essential, alongside the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including families, educators, and community leaders. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are required to address challenges and implement effective solutions. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of three years of professional experience in software development, preferably with a focus on web applications, is required. Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Java is essential, along with experience with frameworks like React, Django, or Spring. Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment are also necessary. Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, and agile development methodologies is preferred.

A secondary education diploma or its equivalent is mandatory for this position.

A minimum of six years of hands-on professional experience in finance and accounting is essential.

A strong candidate must demonstrate expertise in developing and overseeing project plans, objectives, and deliverables while monitoring resource allocation—including time, budget, and team capacity—and proactively identifying potential risks. The role requires sharp analytical abilities to interpret data, pinpoint challenges, and deliver data-driven recommendations to support strategic decision-making. Additionally, proficiency in leveraging digital tools, AI-powered solutions, and integrated business systems is essential for enhancing data quality and optimizing reporting processes.

Proficiency in English is essential for this role.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official UN language—such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish—or a local language relevant to the duty station is viewed as a valuable asset.

Highly desirable qualifications include professional or university-level courses focused on finance and accounting.

Relevant country-level experience, especially in development initiatives, fragile environments, and humanitarian settings, is highly advantageous.
