SHOCK seeks a community-focused individual grounded in grassroots efforts to provide Kenya’s most vulnerable girls with the comprehensive support necessary for enrollment, consistent school attendance, and personal growth. Central to this role, the Scholarship Coordinator will oversee and administer SHOCK’s scholarship program while fostering re-enrollment across five targeted counties, serving as a direct, on-the-ground resource for scholarship recipients. This position will act as a vital link among SHOCK, educational institutions, scholars, and families, cultivating strong, meaningful connections to guarantee that SHOCK scholarship recipients are identified and receive holistic support. Embedded within SHOCK’s SHOCK Urban Network (SUN) community organizing framework, the role will ensure that scholar identification and support remain deeply rooted in grassroots engagement.

Key Responsibilities and Duties Include:

Overseeing and executing core functions essential to the position, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Managing critical tasks with precision and efficiency while maintaining high standards of performance. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to foster synergy and achieve collective goals. Developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness and drive sustainable growth. Monitoring key performance indicators to assess progress and identify opportunities for improvement. Providing leadership and guidance to team members to cultivate a productive and motivated workforce. Ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to uphold compliance and mitigate risks. Facilitating communication and coordination across departments to streamline workflows and optimize resource allocation.

Develop and oversee robust connections with the Scholar Support Ecosystem to foster collaboration and enhance support structures.

Collaborate with SUN Committees to facilitate seamless and efficient onboarding processes for public school leadership, including principals and bursars, while ensuring ongoing support for scholarship recipients.

Collaborate effectively with the SUN and Gender department to identify students who satisfy the eligibility criteria for support.

Partner with the Scholarship Officer, SUN facilitators, and Gender team to provide mentorship and school holiday programming, overseeing logistics planning.

Collaborate closely with families to empower them in fostering their scholar’s academic progress and emotional welfare, while clarifying their essential role in the scholar’s mentorship journey.

Develop and maintain robust partnerships with local organizations and government entities dedicated to assisting at-risk girls, such as adolescent mothers, to establish and enhance collaborative initiatives aimed at scholar recruitment and support.

We will lead Case Management efforts while also overseeing Scholar Welfare and wellbeing initiatives to ensure comprehensive support and development for all scholars.

Develop and oversee scholar welfare and wellbeing initiatives, providing mentorship to scholarship recipients as required.

To foster consistent communication with parents and guardians of beneficiaries, proactively ensure all students remain enrolled in school and are promptly informed of any relevant updates or developments. Any arising concerns or challenges must be escalated without delay to the Scholarship Officer for appropriate resolution.

Proactively detect and highlight students who may be at risk of disengaging from their studies or require psychosocial assistance.

We will facilitate introductory meetings with newly awarded scholarship recipients and their families to familiarize them with program requirements, policies, and procedures, ensuring they are fully prepared to commence their academic journey.

Collaborate closely with SUN committees to advance community ownership and accountability in all initiatives mentioned above.

Escalation of cases requiring attention in the domain of Gender will be necessary.

The role encompasses overseeing data management processes and providing robust support for monitoring, evaluation, and learning initiatives. This position involves ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of data while facilitating the systematic collection, analysis, and utilization of information to enhance programmatic decision-making.
