Investment Teams are tasked with sourcing potential acquisitions, conducting thorough due diligence before finalizing investments, and actively managing portfolio assets. In this process, the Sustainability Manager contributes to the due diligence phase and remains involved in the ongoing oversight, monitoring, and enhancement of the fund manager’s asset portfolio. The investment portfolio generally comprises core infrastructure assets, including toll roads, airports, ports, renewable energy installations (such as wind, hydro, and solar farms), as well as digital and telecoms towers. Additionally, the portfolio features medium-to-large enterprises operating across the African continent.
You will oversee the following key responsibilities: managing and executing projects to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align on objectives and resolve dependencies, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders to provide regular updates and gather feedback. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing and implementing strategies to enhance operational efficiency, analyzing performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement, and ensuring adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards.
Serving as the primary liaison for the fund manager, you will gain a comprehensive insight into their business operations and play a pivotal role in shaping their ESG and impact strategy. Your deep involvement will ensure alignment with their objectives while providing strategic guidance and support in developing and executing these initiatives.
Interpret, lead, and enhance the fund manager’s environmental and social management systems as required.
Support the investment teams by conducting ESG due diligence to assess whether potential investments align with OMAR’s ESG requirements, including compliance with the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Guidelines, IFC Sector Guidelines, International Labour Organization (ILO) standards, and other pertinent frameworks.
Deliver specialized knowledge spanning diverse industries and investment categories to adeptly oversee ESG risks and spearhead the achievement of meaningful, beneficial outcomes.
Evaluate the sustainability dimensions of projects and provide support to specialists in executing initiatives while ensuring adherence to contractual obligations pertaining to the sustainability criteria of the various funds’ assets.
Support asset managers by tracking and guiding assets to ensure fulfillment of their sustainability commitments, which may entail site visits and collaboration with executive teams.
Preparation of investor and sustainability reports is required, along with responses to ad-hoc investor/shareholder ESG-related inquiries and client engagement.
Responsibilities include managing and analyzing sustainability data to generate valuable insights for both internal stakeholders and external clients.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with a minimum of five years of professional experience in a comparable role. Proficiency in project management software, advanced Excel, and data analysis tools is essential. Strong communication and organizational skills are necessary, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance standards is also a must.
Candidates must possess academic credentials or practical experience in environmental or social sciences.
With a minimum of ten years of directly relevant professional experience, candidates should possess a proven track record of expertise in the field. This experience should demonstrate deep familiarity with key responsibilities and challenges pertinent to the role. The ideal applicant will have accumulated extensive hands-on knowledge, ensuring they can contribute meaningfully from day one.
Proficient in French is required for this role. Fluency in the language is essential to fulfill the responsibilities associated with this position. Candidates must possess the ability to communicate effectively in French to engage with stakeholders, clients, or team members as needed.
Professional registration or certification, where applicable, is required.

Applicants should possess a strong background in the ESG field, encompassing Environmental and Social (ES) Screening, ES Impact Assessments (Elias), ES Due Diligence, Risk Assessment, and Environmental and Social Management Systems (SMS). Demonstrated expertise in applying specialized biodiversity, biophysical, and socio-economic knowledge—particularly in climate change contexts ranging from mitigation to adaptation—is essential.
Professionals with familiarity in sustainability considerations for capital-intensive infrastructure initiatives—such as those in oil and gas, thermal power generation, renewable energy, roads, and ports—are encouraged to apply.
Accomplished professionals with a proven track record in developing, executing, and overseeing environmental and social management systems and plans are sought for roles within construction and operational business environments.
