Shining Hope for Communities (SHOCK) is a non-profit organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and New York, NY, dedicated to addressing urban poverty and gender inequality in Nairobi’s informal settlements. Founded in 2004 by Kennedy Odd, who experienced life in the Kiera slum firsthand, SHOCK prioritizes youth and gender empowerment. The organization operates through four key initiatives: education, health, economic and community empowerment, and water and sanitation. SHOCK is currently engaged in the Kiera and Mathieu slums of Nairobi.
