About the Role
We seek proficient Swahili audio transcribers to transform spoken recordings into polished, well-structured written documents. Your role will involve processing diverse audio materials—including interviews, discussions, podcasts, and field recordings—featuring a mix of standard Kiswahili alongside regional slang and dialectal variations. Ideal candidates will be passionate about language and eager to capture the authentic, everyday expressions of Kiswahili as it is naturally spoken in markets, streets, and communities nationwide.
What You’ll Do
Accurately transcribe Swahili audio recordings into precise written format.
Faithfully document slang, code-switching, and dialectal expressions with precision and attention to linguistic detail.
Flag any unclear audio segments and insert contextual notes as appropriate.
Ensure adherence to established formatting standards and comply with our comprehensive style guide throughout all documentation and communications.
Produce fully processed transcripts in adherence to established deadlines.
What We’re Looking For
We require exceptional proficiency in both spoken and written Kiswahili, either as a native speaker or through near-native fluency.
Fluency in at least one of the following:

It serves as a vibrant mode of communication among youth, particularly in informal settings, reflecting the creative and adaptive nature of modern Kenyan identity. This linguistic hybrid enriches everyday interactions, fostering a sense of community and shared expression across diverse social groups in Nairobi and beyond.
Fluent proficiency in a native Kenyan or Tanzanian tribal language—such as Kikuyu, Luo, Lucy, Samba, Valentin, Chara, Hayey, or others—is required.
You possess a keen eye for detail, easily identifying minute discrepancies that others may overlook.
Able to thrive in high-pressure environments while maintaining a strong commitment to delivering high-quality results under stringent time constraints.
Reliable high-speed internet access paired with a distraction-free workspace is essential to ensure seamless task completion and productivity.
Proficient in operating headphones and transcription software.
Nice to Have:
With a proven track record in transcription, translation, or subtitling, you bring valuable expertise to the role. Your background in these areas ensures accuracy and efficiency in handling multilingual content. Whether converting audio to text, translating written materials, or creating subtitles, your experience aligns seamlessly with our project demands.
Proficiency in linguistic annotation or data labeling tasks for artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives is required.
