Key Result Areas:

Investment Teams are tasked with sourcing prospective acquisitions, executing thorough due diligence assessments, and overseeing the continuous asset management of portfolio investments. The Sustainability Manager contributes to the due diligence process and plays a sustained role in the stewardship, oversight, and enhancement of the fund manager’s asset portfolio. Investments generally encompass core infrastructure assets, including toll roads, airports, ports, and renewable energy installations such as wind, hydro, and solar facilities, as well as digital and telecoms towers. Additionally, the portfolio includes medium-to-large enterprises operating across the African continent.

You will oversee the following key responsibilities: managing project timelines and resources to ensure timely delivery, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align on objectives, and monitoring progress to identify and mitigate potential risks. Additionally, you will be tasked with analyzing data to generate actionable insights, documenting processes for future reference, and maintaining open communication channels to keep stakeholders informed. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to evolving priorities in a fast-paced environment.

As the primary liaison for the fund manager, you will gain a deep understanding of their business operations and play a key role in shaping the fund’s ESG and impact strategy. In this senior position, you will provide strategic guidance and support to align the fund’s investment approach with sustainable and impact-driven objectives.

Interpret, champion, and enhance—where appropriate—the fund manager’s environmental and social management systems.

Assist the investment teams in conducting ESG due diligence to assess whether potential investments meet OMAR’s ESG criteria, which encompass UN PRI, the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS and Sector Guidelines, ILO standards, and other applicable benchmarks.

Offer specialized knowledge spanning diverse industries and investment categories to adeptly oversee ESG risks while fostering the achievement of meaningful, beneficial outcomes.

Examine the sustainability dimensions of projects and support specialists in executing initiatives while ensuring adherence to contractual obligations regarding the sustainability criteria of the various funds’ assets.

Support asset managers by overseeing and guiding the assets through the fulfillment of their sustainability commitments, which may entail site visits and direct interaction with management teams.

Drafting investor and sustainability reports, as well as addressing ad-hoc ESG-related queries from investors, shareholders, and clients.

Sustainability data is collected, managed, and analyzed to extract actionable insights that support both internal decision-making and external reporting requirements.

Investment teams receive comprehensive training on sustainability-related topics to enhance their expertise in this critical area.

Verify adherence to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) mandates in fund operations.

As the appointed representative of OMAR, you will engage in public forums to advocate for Sustainability initiatives, sharing insights and fostering meaningful discussions on pertinent environmental and corporate responsibility matters.

Act as a delegate of OMAR in governance forums and committees, advocating for the organization’s interests and ensuring its perspectives are represented.

Offer strategic insights and innovative solutions through thought leadership initiatives and associated deliverables.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required, along with a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in software development, preferably in a DevOps or cloud engineering capacity. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go is essential, alongside expertise in infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or Ansible. Familiarity with cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, or GCP, is mandatory, and experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving abilities, collaborative mindset, and exceptional communication skills are necessary to thrive in this role.

Qualified candidates will possess academic credentials or professional experience in disciplines such as environmental science, sustainability studies, social sciences, or related fields.

Proficient in French is required, with strong verbal and written communication skills necessary for effective interaction.

Suitable qualifications demonstrating professional registration or certification are required.

Proficiency in the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Guidelines, International Labour Organization (ILO) standards, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is required, along with familiarity with other pertinent sustainability frameworks and directives.

Proficiency in the expansive ESG field, encompassing Environmental and Social (ES) Screening, ES Impact Assessments (Elias), ES Due Diligence, Risk Assessment, and ES Management Systems (SMS), is required. Demonstrated ability to leverage specialized expertise in biodiversity, biophysical and socio-economic domains—particularly in climate change initiatives spanning mitigation to adaptation—is essential.

Professionals will gain experience with sustainability considerations relevant to high-capital infrastructure initiatives, including oil and gas facilities, thermal power stations, renewable energy installations, as well as transportation networks such as roads and ports.

Professionals must possess demonstrated expertise in developing, deploying, and overseeing environmental and social management frameworks and strategies within construction and operational business environments.

Proven expertise and essential capabilities that drive success in this role include strong analytical thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively. Candidates must exhibit exceptional communication skills to collaborate across teams, along with a results-driven mindset to meet deadlines consistently.
