The Role

Oxfam in Africa seeks an accomplished Strategic Communications Advisor to strengthen the Director’s external outreach and elevate Oxfam’s presence across the continent and beyond.

This pivotal position sits at the core of Oxfam’s advocacy efforts, offering significant influence and impact. You will craft and execute strategic communications to elevate the Director’s public presence, guaranteeing that their interactions—spanning elite summits to media engagements—are compelling, cohesive, and fully aligned with Oxfam’s strategic objectives.

Collaborating effectively with the Senior Leadership Team, Media and Communications colleagues, and partners throughout the confederation, you will spearhead the development, messaging, and implementation of critical engagements, fostering robust alignment between advocacy initiatives, communications efforts, and overall organizational strategy.

This position is accountable to the Oxfam in Africa Director, while maintaining a secondary reporting relationship with the Media and Communications Lead.

What we’re looking for

We seek a seasoned communications expert with a proven background in media relations, public outreach, and strategic advocacy. In this role, you will leverage exceptional writing and editorial capabilities to distill intricate policy matters into engaging, accessible content tailored to key stakeholders.

As a highly adept relationship manager, you excel in fostering meaningful connections with key decision-makers, including senior stakeholders in government bodies, international organizations, civil society groups, and global partners. Your ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to dynamic, fast-paced settings enables you to efficiently juggle competing priorities without compromising precision or thoroughness.

You excel at strategic thinking, adeptly identifying opportunities to amplify Oxfam’s influence and optimize the impact of leadership engagements. Driven by a deep commitment to social justice, gender equality, and Oxfam’s mission, you embody these values in your work. Proficiency in English and French is mandatory, while additional fluency in Portuguese is considered a valuable asset.

What we offer

At Oxfam, we believe that every aspect of our work can lead to a positive outcome. If you have the same opinion, together with the ability to meet the challenges involved, this role offers scope for immense personal fulfilment, as well as outstanding opportunities to develop your career. Oxfam is committed to providing a fair compensation package based on a 36-hour work week.
