JOB PURPOSE
The HSS Intern will deliver comprehensive technical assistance, conduct in-depth research, facilitate coordination efforts, and assist with operational and administrative tasks across the Health Systems Strengthening Directorate’s key technical areas as well as its cross-cutting programs, departments, and initiatives.
The intern will contribute to evidence generation, prepare technical documentation, coordinate with stakeholders, assist in program implementation activities, and support knowledge management processes, thereby gaining hands-on exposure to health systems strengthening initiatives, policy development, and technical assistance projects across Africa.
Oversee the execution of critical operational tasks to ensure seamless business continuity and adherence to established protocols. Develop and implement strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity, efficiency, and quality standards across all functional areas. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives, resolve complex challenges, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Monitor performance metrics and key indicators to assess operational effectiveness, identify areas for enhancement, and implement corrective actions as needed. Serve as a primary liaison between senior leadership and departmental teams to facilitate clear communication, streamline decision-making processes, and foster a culture of accountability and transparency. Evidence Generation and Technical Research involves conducting comprehensive studies, data analysis, and scientific investigations to support product development, regulatory compliance, and strategic decision-making. This role requires expertise in research methodologies, a strong foundation in technical disciplines, and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights. Responsibilities include designing and executing research protocols, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing detailed technical reports to inform stakeholders. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in relevant analytical tools and software, adherence to regulatory standards, and effective communication of findings to cross-functional teams.
Provide assistance in conducting literature reviews, desk reviews, and evidence synthesis across Health and Social Systems (HSS) thematic areas—such as Primary Health Care (PHC), Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMN CAH), Social Determinants of Health (Doh), health workforce, and health financing.
Support the preparation of technical data and foundational resources for initiatives, discussions, and high-level collaborations.
Assist in creating technical briefs, presentations, reports, and knowledge products to support development efforts.
Assist in developing and compiling evidence to document insights and best practices derived from Humanitarian Support and Stabilization (HSS) initiatives.
Technical writing, reporting, and documentation encompass the creation, organization, and dissemination of clear, concise, and accurate technical content to support users, stakeholders, and internal teams. This role requires proficiency in crafting structured documents such as user manuals, guides, API documentation, and process workflows, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organizational objectives. Additionally, it demands strong research, analytical, and communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for diverse audiences. Experience with documentation tools, content management systems, and collaboration platforms is often essential, along with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to evolving project requirements.
Assist in the preparation and refinement of workshop reports, meeting summaries, concept notes, technical documents, and presentations.

Assist in organizing, maintaining, and updating technical documentation and knowledge management systems to ensure accuracy and accessibility for all stakeholders.
