Job Purpose: The role is designed to drive strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational performance and achieving key business objectives. It involves overseeing critical projects, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring alignment with company goals. Responsibilities include analyzing market trends, identifying growth opportunities, and implementing data-driven solutions to optimize efficiency and profitability. This position is designed to provide timely and proactive legal counsel to our Kenyan operations while effectively executing the Legal Functional strategy and objectives. It involves advising entities in Kenya on all legal matters concerning commercial, operational, governance, and regulatory business aspects.

We seek a highly organized professional to oversee operational, business, and professional functions within the organization. Assist in formulating and implementing the Legal function’s strategic initiatives.

Monitor and assess Kenya’s legislative landscape to ensure the business remains compliant with all applicable legal requirements.

Ensure comprehensive knowledge of regulatory matters and the applicable regulatory landscape for the business, assuming accountability for crafting well-informed resolutions that allow the organization to effectively address and navigate regulatory limitations.

Responsibilities include overseeing all litigation initiated by or against the business as directed by the Head of Legal, Kenya, as well as developing and implementing strategic approaches for each case.

Provide assistance to the Head of Legal, Kenya in overseeing entity management and maintaining adherence to robust corporate governance standards across the client’s entities within the country.

Collaborate across departments on multifaceted business projects and strategic initiatives to evaluate, track, and proactively identify potential risks, thereby mitigating legal exposure and safeguarding the attainment of organizational goals.

Prepare contractual documentation, engage in negotiations, and assess agreements to enhance operational efficiencies within the Legal sub-function while establishing standardized formats for consistency.

Perform essential administrative functions within the department to maintain resource availability, ensure the seamless flow of information, and keep records current.

Enhance the Legal department’s control environment to align with organizational strategy and objectives.

To ensure seamless collaboration and alignment among teams, engage in cross-functional and interdepartmental communication, delivering timely updates to all stakeholders and proactively addressing shared challenges to drive collective solutions.

Demonstrates strong leadership qualities, including the ability to guide teams effectively and inspire others toward achieving organizational goals. Dedicated to the ongoing enhancement of systems and operational workflows, you will refine and develop more effective processes to maximize efficiency and minimize expenditures.

Educational Background, Professional Experience, and Essential Competencies:

A distinguished legal degree from a well-regarded academic institution, coupled with demonstrated proficiency in delivering strategic legal counsel to internal stakeholders.

At minimum, candidates must possess three to four years of post-qualification legal experience.

Professional candidates will ideally possess a minimum of two to three years of experience gained in high-pressure legal environments, such as fast-paced law firms.

Proven track record in overseeing and coordinating litigation processes, ensuring adherence to legal protocols and strategic objectives.

Proficiency in corporate secretarial practices and governance matters, particularly with Certified Practicing Secretary (CPSK) qualifications, is highly advantageous.

Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of pertinent local substantive and procedural laws across various domains, including but not limited to Commercial Law, labor regulations, land use statutes, factory and manufacturing compliance standards, and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) legislation.

Effective negotiators must possess exceptional skills in both written and verbal communication to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively.

Demonstrates exceptional strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, and sound judgment in decision-making processes.

Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities, executes independent decision-making effectively, and collaborates seamlessly with peers and senior management.
